The Francis is very centrally located in Bath with all major attractions within walking distance. It is set by a beautiful wee park and on the main tourist open-top-bus route (which we recommend by the way). You can tell the hotel has been very grand in its day, however now feels just a little bit tired in terms of its decor and facilities. This however should not put you off too much, as this really is one of its charms. Staff were very helpful and breakfasts were very good.

“Dont waste your money at the Francis Hotel!!”

Even the location of the hotel is very good we had a horrible time and experience due to one of the members of the staff. Restaurant was ok, after having a nice dinner we went for a drink to enjoy the evening in the lovely city of Bath. When we came back the night porter, an old, rude and arrogant man who claim to be the manager of the hotel refused to serve us a drink, when where told that the bar is open 24 hours, he told us he was busy and left with out saying anything else. With a staff like that this hotel doesn’t cover the minimum service standards.

We recently stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. We were delighted to find out that the whole hotel was non-smoking. The hotel was built in the 1700s (or so), which means that the floors creak and voices in the hallway can be heard in the rooms. However, this did not bother us at night. The bathrooms were large. There was complementary tea and cookies in the room. We opted for the breakfast in the morning, which we enjoyed. It featured a cold buffet of cereals, fruit, pastries, juices, and yogurt, as well as a hot full English breakfast menu including tea, coffee, toast, eggs, meats, tomatoes, mushrooms, and black pudding. But the best part of this hotel is its location. It is right in the heart of Bath, just a short walk from the Abbey, Roman Baths, Jane Austen, etc. It is also close to shops and restaurants. We came in by train, and took a taxi to the hotel from the station, so I do not have knowledge of the parking situation. All in all, if I ever return to Bath, I would stay at this hotel again.

“Loved It!!!!!”

Mercure Francis Hotel

What a wonderful Hotel!
I have just arrived back in the States after touring Europe with my family for three months and I can say that this was our favourite Hotel out of all the ones we stayed at.
As people can probably guess, travelling with two young (and energetic) children can be very trying at times but the incredibly helpful staff at the Mercure Francis made the four days we were there a truly relaxing experience.
When we arrived after a long car drive we were immediately welcomed by a passing staff member who took us to the reception desk and then kept the kids occupied while we checked in!!
The delightful receptionist then arranged for our vehicle to be taken to the car park and have our luggage brought in.
We had originally reserved a junior suite with two camp beds for the kids but she told us that she had two connecting rooms available if we wanted them as it would give us a lot more space.
We jumped at this opportunity as it would give my wife and I our first bit of privacy for weeks (!!!!)
The rooms were tucked away in the far wing away from the hustle of the Hotel and were nice and spacious, we had a comfortable sofa in ours, and the bathrooms couldn't have been any cleaner.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our maid who kept our rooms tidy in spite of the kids' best efforts!!!
Thanks also to the restaurant staff who saved us our 'special' table by the window every morning and evening, and coped with two young fussy eaters!!
The Hotel was beautiful and so British, and in a lovely position for all the tourist attractions, but it was the staff that made our stay. The individuality of the people working was such a welcome change to the usual clones that we'd come across.
As well travelled people we know that us Americans can be a lot more demanding than the average guest, especially with two even more demanding children, but the girls on the reception always took our requests with an affirmative smile, even though they seemed to be running non stop for our entire visit!!
To describe our time at the Mercure Francis in short: "Thankyou
Thankyou Thankyou"!!

This was our first visit to Bath and we were very excited. The hotel is perfectly located and from the outside it looked like an ideal place to stay. I am all for charm but to me the room was rather dreary and had a musty smell to it but as I said we were excited to be in Bath so we were willing to overlook it...that is until we sat on the bed. The bed was made out of cheap foam and we spent a lot of the night tossing and turning. In addition to that the noise from the street kept us up a good part of the night. I will say the bathroom was quite nice and had been recently updated. All in all an ok place to stay but nothing special.
