We went to the Bailbrook Lodge for our anniversary. It sells itself as a 4 star luxurious hotel run by a family. Although it looks quaint from the outside (in spite of it being located just by one of the biggest roundabouts in the UK!) it was unmodernised and dirty inside. The bathrooms were more like cupboards with a tiny shower - I couldn't even raise my arms over my head to wash my hair. There were cobwebs in the corner of the shower. The bathroom was so small that the sink was in the bedroom. There was nothing luxurious about this at all. We had one stale biscuit, a scummy kettle and a grotty clock radio - it only costs £2 for a new one! Breakfast in the morning was a joke - it was too busy, people were queueing to get a seat. The portions were also tiny. When "checking out" we finally met a senior member of staff, the manager. When we put forward our complaints of a dirty, dusty room she was totally intolerant of us. She refused to listen to us and contradicted us - didn't even offer an apology. Over the whole bank holiday weekend the only time the manager came on site (that we could see) was to collect our money.

Without a doubt, the Bailbrook Lodge is the worst place I have ever stayed. The place is dirty, run down, and very over priced. We originally planned to stay for three nights, but we checked-out after one night. The furniture in our room belonged in the trash, and the floor was more comfortable than the bed we tried to sleep in. The shower was so small, I could barely shut the door, which was full of mold and mildew. I couldn't wait to leave in the morning.

Please note that Bailbrook Lodge should be listed as a B&B only and not what they say they are. The place is rundown, the showers are dirty and there are no bath. The central heating also does not work.

The staff in particular are extremely rude, unpolite, aggressive and slapdash. For the price that they expect clients to pay they should at least employ people with some basic manners and who can provide a service that is required.

Personally we would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Breakfast is only serve between 8am and 9am.

They also advertised themselves with 4 diamonds on their website, and on their front gate, however their are only 3 diamonds on their brochure. But the service they offer is not even worth 2 diamonds.

We thought the Bailbrook Lodge was wonderful. The room was appointed beautifully and the sitting room and dining room were lovely. It was a wonderful change from chain-type establishments. We stayed in late February. The morning breakfast was delightful and the manager, Kate, was one of the nicest people we met on our 10-day tour. I definitely would go back again.
