Having booked the only hotel in Bath with rooms available over Easter I was apprehensive after reading the reviews here.

Our room was clean, smart, airy and light. While the decor was like many hotels around the world it was comfortable and convenient. The staff were efficient and friendly.

I suspect that anyone who eats at a chain hotel restaurant when they have the choice of all the wonderful eating places available in Bath needs their opinions taken with a pinch of salt.

I have stayed in other Bath hotels and found the onsite parking more convenient than any other hotel so close to the centre.

I would stay here again.

I think to start with i should say that many of the reviews on this sight are unfair.

The corridors are a bit creaky but apart from that the whole time i spent in Menzies hotel was very pleasant.

Myself and my girlfriend were made to feel very welcome by the staff who were both polite and very helpful.

The room we stayed in only cost £80 which included what i have ot say was a very nice, tasteful and comprehensive buffet breakfast.
We also ate a very tasty meal in the hotel, where again the staff were very helpful and polite.

The hotel is in an ideal location especially as we travelled by train.
One thing i will say is that the despite its cleanliness the hotel was left lacking in comparison to other 4 star hotels. But i would recomend a stay at menzies.

“Doesnt deserve ist 4th star.”

We stayed one night in this hotel at the beginning of february. To find nice things to write, i would say it's in Bath, a beautiful and romatic city. Located at walking distance from train station and 10-15 min walk from town centre, the receptionist was extremely nice and helpful. The room wasnt cold and the TV was working. Now we were a bit surprised by the 4* hotel. The rooms and the halls are old (and dirty?), smelt cigarette, the bathroom, clean but very old looking. The carpets need to be changed, the furniture in the bedroom are in good condition but the room is not cosy and pretty. The impression we have is that it could be a reasonable 3 star hotel, but for that, it is too expensive.

Tired and in poor repair, this building does not live up to its star rating or description on the company website ("exclusive waterside location" is on the edge of a dirty canal). The carpets in the corridors are frayed, the staff (mostly foreign students) are charmless, and the rooms are very low quality. I even considered contacting the people who issue the star rating to review it in this hotel's case! We were bitterly disappointed, especially given the cost of the room.

“Expensive alternative to a tent.”

We only stayed here because it had the only empty rooms in Bath on this particular weekend. We soon found out why.

My main gripe with this place was the cost. We paid £140 for a double room, with no breakfast. When we came to check in, we were told that we couldn't use the room as "there is a problem with the water." What this problem was, the receptionist couldn't say. We were allowed to check in a few hours later.

The room was clean, and tiny - hence the gripe. I don't mind paying £140 a night for a room in a good hotel, but frankly I would have resented paying half as much for this place. Nothing justifies charging so much for so little.

This hotel has since become our benchmark for poor value. When we go abroad, we consider whether our choice of hotel charges more or less per night than the Menzies Waterside. It's yet to be beaten.
