“Great hotel, awful street”

SACO Bath

2 Jun 2008

Stayed in a studio apartment for 2 nights in May, which was a heck of a lot better than I expected it to be - top floor, roomy, modern kitchen, tv and good sized bathroom. Extremely comfortable and modern, with no noise from the surrounding rooms.

However, there was one major drawback - the room, though on 3rd floor, faced a busy mainroad, and is opposite a pub. I have never heard noise like it, drunken shouting and general noise from groups of drinkers carrying on until well into the early hours of the morning. The glazing in the rooms is not good enough, and didn't keep out any of the noise.

We are please that you enjoyed staying in your apartment, and that you felt they were comfortable, spacious and modern.

Sorry to hear that you were disturbed by the noise from the Pub opposite your apartment, we are in the process of looking at different ways to limit the amount of noise from the street to our apartments. However we are in a great location in the City Centre and will always have some hustle and bustle from a busy City street.

We do have a great number of apartments that are not facing the street. We do hope we can welcome you back to SACO Bath in the near future. When you make your next reservation please contact me personally so that I can make the arrangements for you.

Kind regards
Sean Mason

“Perfect mix of hotel services and self-catering freedom”

We booked a SACO apartment for a Bank Holiday weekend over two nights. We parked in the long-stay car park just round the corner in Avon Street and easily found the apartments, set behind a gorgeous sandstone facade.
Inside, it has all been knocked down and rebuilt into modern well-equipped apartments.
Some travellers on here seem to have missed the point of servicied apartments - they are aimed at longer stays for businesspeople and people between homes, so are cleaned once a week not daily. We felt this was the same as at home and were happy to have the same towels for the three days.
The same applies to the comments about washing-up liquid - these are self-catering apartments and you are supposed to supply your own things but the wecome pack of croissants, biscuits, milk, orange juice, cornflakes and bottled water was a lovely touch.
There is enough coffee and tea to last you for three days if you only have one in the morning like we did.
The apartment we were in (number 10) was on the ground floor on the side so there was no traffic noise althought the pub the other side of the square had a band in one night which was quite noisy.
We had a king-size bed, TV and large full-length mirror in the bedroom as well as a decent hairdryer.
The bathroom had complimentary Molton Brown goodies and a good shower.
The lounge had a TV, CD player, dining table and kitchenette which itself had a washing machine and dishwasher, cooker and hob.
The only gripe was that the cable TV was split between the apartments so when a number of people were trying to watch it the signal was fragmented which did get annoying.
We loved the SACO apartments and will definitely go back, as well as seek them out in other countries round the world. They are the perfect mix of hotel and self-catering.

Booked 3 night stay at Saco Bath in a 1 bedroom apartment.
Was allocated a basement apartment with bedroom and kitchen windows at below street level. Also these windows were next to the main road so traffic noise was very noticeable on this side of the apartment. The lounge side overlooked a small car park. Bathroom had no window. Apartment had its own entrance tucked away in the corner of the rear of the building which was actually quite nice and we didn't mind coming and going as much as we liked during our stay and gave some privacy.
Being a serviced apartment I thought the service would be similar to that of an hotel, ie towel change and daily cleaning but the receptionist stated that this was not the case. She thought we maybe would get clean towels on the Friday (day before we were due to check out) so I am not sure what the service is supposed to be.
On the whole the apartment was clean but there was a strong smell of fried food when we first walked in and the hallway also smelled of wet towels and linen. We found that the TV in the lounge had a sound fault which rendered it unwatchable and the freezer in the kitchen had not been defrosted for about 5 years.
The carpet was also dirty and stained.
Location was excellent, short walk past the building site from the railway station. There is a great view of Bath as you come in on the London train before you reach the station.
Also the apartment was very close to the themae spa and the main shopping street, the abbey and the roman baths museum.
Lots of good restuarants nearby, we like Los Iguanos for latin american food and good service. A small cafe in the square near the abbey and the pump room entrance was pricey for the basic menu offerred.
All in all it was an adequate place to stay and reasonable value for money, however don't expect hotel style services.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in these apartments. Extremely convenient for the sites in Bath. Very roomy and comfortable.

Just watch out for parking - you have to park in the long stay about 5 mins down the road, as there is no parking at the apartments themselves.

“Great stay”

SACO Bath

20 Apr 2008

Stayed 2 nights at the SACO Bath. Booked purely based on the reviews from other travellers and was not disappointed. Stayed in a one bed apartment, the size was great , the kitchen included a dishwasher and washing machine which was handy. Welcome basket was a nice touch filled with croissants, cereal, juice milk etc. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the reception is manned 24 hrs a day. Would happily stay here again the room was lovely, location fab but would try and take advantage of one of their special offers to keep the price down. Would recommend to all.
