Dunan House is rated highly on the 'Sawdays' website from which we book all our UK B&Bs. This came warmly reviewed although not by all. Even before we got to the B&B, there was an impression that the warm and comforting air usually expected from Sawdays recommendations was sadly lacking. Email chasing payment followed by an impersonal note asking for a telephone number filled us with trepidation and in all honesty we would have probably taken the deposit hit and stayed away if we knew what was coming. If having people to stay is such an inconvenience then don't run a B&B.
The room was ok, attic with a lovely view but no lock on the door or the bathroom. My boyfriend had to re-tune the TV to make it work and the radio was on the blink. Not really morning people, we were woken on the first morning asking if we were 'ok' and then knocked up BEFORE the check-out time on the second, reminding us the cleaner would soon be there and they'd need to room back? Errrr let's get our stuff and leave as fast as we can.
Aldeburgh itself was lovely. An excellent meal in the Lighthouse (don't touch the White Lion - it is AWFUL) and lovely beers in numerous pubs. Southwold was very busy but lovely Adnams beer and fish and chips...
I can not review the breakfast as we never got up for it but I am sure it is lovely. I would shop around in Aldeburgh before booking Dunan, it is not the most comforting stay and not at all what we expected. All in all, we came away felling £160 had been wasted and really rather disappointed!!

We weren’t impressed either! It happens that people book a room and don’t send a deposit then don’t come. We have lost out like this a few times. In this case we contacted them 9 days after they said they were sending a deposit and 5 days before their booking with a perfectly courteous e mail. It took 3 (also courteous) e mails to get an address and phone number. They asked for breakfast at 9am and did not show up. We waited around till after 10 before giving up and clearing away. No apology or explanation was given. In fact they hardly spoke to us socially at all. After reconfirming they wanted breakfast at 9 on the second (departure) day they again did not show and as we needed to clean the room we thought it appropriate to knock on their door 15 mins before our cleaner arrived. I could go on…

We really love doing this business. 99.9% of people who stay here are totally delightful and really love it here but sometimes, very occasionally, it does not quite work out that way.
