We stayed at the White Horse for one night in June. We used the hotel as a base to go to a wedding in Leatherhead.

The hotel was once part of the MacDonald Group and now forms part of the Mercure chain.

We booked this hotel over the net and didnt really do any research. It was all a bit last minute.

Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is like a large country pub and we were pleased to see a good sized car park.

Check-In was both friendly and efficient. They appeared to be expecting us and also advised that they had already arranged a taxi to take us to the wedding venue.

We were advised that we were in the garden rooms, which upon arrival looked like a block of flats at the back of the hotel. The entrance and stairs didnt look very inviting but when we opened the door to our rooms we were impressed.

The room was decorated in the same style as many of the MacDonald hotels. It looked like it had been recently modernised. Rooms contained iron/ironing board. Hairdryer and Tea and Coffee making facilities.

The bar is open 24 hours which was rather nice as we all fancied a night cap when we returned from the wedding.

Breakfast was lovely and there was a good choice of cereals, fruit, pastries and then cooked breakfast prepared to order.
The service again was efficient and friendly.

We didnt eat evening meal at the hotel so cannot comment on this. However one of our party stayed for Sunday lunch and again thought it was wonderful.

We have nothing bad to say about our stay at the White Horse and would definatly recommend it as a base for a short break again.

PS: Where in Dorking serves food all day????

“should do better”

I telephoned the hotel directly the day before arrival having booked through laterooms 3 weeks earlier, they did not have the booking because their email system had been down. Not a good start. Staff friendly but place is shabby. Clean but in need of updating. Shower spewed everywhere other than straight down which is why the bathroom decor was in a state. In the room, there was peeling wallpaper & dark, dingey soft furnishings. The room was above the kitchen wheelie bins ..... wouldn't be good on a hot day. The window only opens a few inches and there was NO aircon. Breakfast was good, bar poorly stocked. They are living off its olde worlde status but really need to spend some cash and get the place tidied up. OK for a one night stop over.

My wife took me back here for my birthday. We had and excellent stay, this time in the 'stable block' (the Olivier Suite).

It's been taken over by ther Mercure group since my last stay and I think it's a change for the better.

“Lots of problems very rude staff - worth avoiding like the plague!!!”

Mercure White Horse Dorking

I dont know where to start - constant problems!! "Loosing" our registration when I called to confirm before arrival and then again when we arrived, trying to overcharge us both on check in, and check out (the receptionist threatened not to let us leave until another £40 had been paid!) and being extremely rude when we tried (very reasonably!) to explain and sort it out!! Mistakes are fine - everyone is human but rudeness really isnt on, especially for £90 a night.

Seconding others reviews that the food was pretty bad really and very overpriced for what it was but Dorking is very pretty.

Would recomend staying elsewhere to be honest!!

A lovely old coaching inn with comfortable rooms. Evening Menu is however too complicated and the food is stodgy and dry and in some cases undercooked. By sticking to their simplistic lunch menu they could do much better.
