We stayed for two nights at Easter when visiting family in Guildford. The outside looked very plain and Travelodge-esque, but as soon as we stepped inside we were pleased with what we saw. The decor in the lobby is the standard dark wood, red, gold and green furnishings that were popular with 4 and 5 star hotels over the last few years...I believe they are getting refurbished soon (no doubt white with shades of brown...very now). It certainly felt more luxurious than the exterior suggested.
Check-in was swift although the girl was a little aloof and she did not ask if we needed help with our luggage. Our room was massive!! (no.346..worth asking for) I don't think all the rooms were this big...we just got lucky as ours was on the end of a corridor and was just above the health suite. Our room had a corridor that we had to go through to get to the main room which had room for three king sized beds easily. The bathroom was huge too. It was excellent considering we were only paying £77 per night + breakfast. (Book online with hotel...you get cheaper deal)
The bed was really comfy and the room was immaculate. The furnishings were all dark oak, a little dated, but nice all the same. The bathroom was white, the only down side was the grouting on the floor was a little grey. (I have a thing about lovely white grouting!)
Breakfast was wonderful and really worth having. There was a really good choice of hot and cold foods and they went out of their way to make decaff coffee and tea for us.
We plan to stay here when we come to Guildford again. Reasonably priced and very comfortable!
