“Very nice place”

Holiday Inn Guildford

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Guildford 5 - 7 May, 2007. We booked it over the internet. We were very impressed. Our room was really nice. Plenty of towels, packed mini-bar (although we didn't use it). We ate dinner on the first night in the restaurant. Although it was quite expensive, the food was very good, except for my meal. I had rack of ribs, with rice, corn, mushrooms, tomato & onion rings. The ribs had no meat whatsoever on them (very spare ribs!). However, the rest of the food on my plate was excellent. I did complain and the duty manager came to speak to me immediately. He sincerely apologised and refunded the total cost of my meal. Which was very good of him, as I would have been happy just to be refunded part of it. He also insisted we have free drinks, anything we wanted, and these were delivered to our room within about 5 minutes. The breakfast is excellent. Lots of choice, continental and traditional english breakfast. Beware the toaster! The toast had to go through it about 4 or 5 times to get browned! And that's only one side! Overall a very good quality hotel, very good food and service. We would go again.

We stayed for two nights at Easter when visiting family in Guildford. The outside looked very plain and Travelodge-esque, but as soon as we stepped inside we were pleased with what we saw. The decor in the lobby is the standard dark wood, red, gold and green furnishings that were popular with 4 and 5 star hotels over the last few years...I believe they are getting refurbished soon (no doubt white with shades of brown...very now). It certainly felt more luxurious than the exterior suggested.
Check-in was swift although the girl was a little aloof and she did not ask if we needed help with our luggage. Our room was massive!! (no.346..worth asking for) I don't think all the rooms were this big...we just got lucky as ours was on the end of a corridor and was just above the health suite. Our room had a corridor that we had to go through to get to the main room which had room for three king sized beds easily. The bathroom was huge too. It was excellent considering we were only paying £77 per night + breakfast. (Book online with hotel...you get cheaper deal)
The bed was really comfy and the room was immaculate. The furnishings were all dark oak, a little dated, but nice all the same. The bathroom was white, the only down side was the grouting on the floor was a little grey. (I have a thing about lovely white grouting!)
Breakfast was wonderful and really worth having. There was a really good choice of hot and cold foods and they went out of their way to make decaff coffee and tea for us.
We plan to stay here when we come to Guildford again. Reasonably priced and very comfortable!

“Look around because there must be better”

Stayed here a few nights on a business trip in the depths of winter. Without a car it was hard to get anywhere, even the Tesco nearby was across several busy roads with no pedestrian crossing facility.
Hotel decor was nice, and the food OK, but my big problem was the bedsheets were so overstarched they brought me out in a rash. I tried to explain this to both some maids and another staff member (the maids trying to help but having little grasp of English). I was told that as all sheets are simply bussed out to be washed each day and then bussed back there was no way to fix this problem. I suggested they just not change the sheets, or just try rinsing and letting them dry to try and get the skin-scouring stuff of them but apparently this was out of the question. So I did it myself.

In all, a medicore hotel that, whilst not rude or nasty, is very inflexible, uncomfortable and in a poor location. For this money I could have had a better stay in a motel. Next trip to Guildford I'll try somewhere else.

“Just too little for too much money”

I am already in Holiday Inn for almost three weeks. and I am goanna stay there for another 5 weekes. But I would like to share my opinion so far. The hotel is just too overpriced! Rooms are not carefully cleaned every day. They don't changed sheets every day, something totally unexceptable for a 4 and 1/2 stars hotel with my room priced 190 pounds per night....
The hotel doen't have a lift and wherever you want to carry heavy laggage to room, it's just a torture...

The breakfast is far from characterized us nice and rich...bred and crouasants are often not fresh. There is no much variety and the most strange thing, the use the same pots for coffee and tea, something which means that your coffee might taste like tea some days...and the most annoying, a manager asking you if you want to check out during the breakfast...Come on Sir, breakfast is my time before I move out, you get your money....

Hotel's restaurant is another big disappointment. Overpriced dishes, slow but kindly service...

In conclusion and having another 5 weeks to stay in, I can easily say that is a nice place to stay but not less than 2 days...and that's the longest..

“Pleasantly Surprised”

Stayed here on the Saturday and Sunday night over Easter with my Husband and 5 year old son. Was a bit concerned when we arrived to see how close to the busy A3 we were, but luckily from where our room was situated you could not hear any traffic, infact we didn't hear any noise atall. We had an excutive room and paid £66 per night which included breakfast for all 3 of us. Bearing in mind breakfast on its own was £15 each I thought this was a pretty good deal. I booked on their website using the "Best Available" rate. Breakfast was great with a very wide selection to suit everyone. We also used the pool which though small was very nice. I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.
