“What a huge let down...”

My sisters big day arrived, and we were all due to get ready for the wedding at this hotel, and then stay there that night - a HUGE MISTAKE!!! Because of the hotels lack of competence, my poor sister arrived 30 minutes late to her own wedding, I know the bride is meant to be a little fashionably late - but this was ridiculous. Not only did she turn up late for the wedding, keeping us all waiting far too long, but when she did arrive, she was so panicked and flustered that she didn't get to fully enjoy the moment - arriving at the venue. There were minimal pictures taken of this part of the day, as she literally had to rush into the ceremony, meaning she doesn't have any lasting photo's of the special moment with her dad. But anyway, back to the disaster of a hotel, the hotel doesn't have parking, which is understandable as they are situated on Guildford High Street - but they don't even offer a valet service. The nearest car parks are a good 10-15 minute walk away - not good when you have lots of luggage. As this is meant to be a 'Luxury' hotel - I couldn't see what was 'luxury' about having to walk around half of Guildford, sweating because you're carrying suitcases - and paying for the privilege! The breakfast was particularly impressive - POWDERED EGGS -need I say more??? If you're like me, you believe that when staying in a good hotel, you can look forward to a tasty breakfast in the morning - not if you stay at this hotel. The whole breakfast scenario was weird, there was no choice of what to order: stale fry up, or stale fry up!!!!
The staff were unhelpful and rude, and wouldn't take ownership for any of the mess that had been created by them.
I would never stay at this hotel again, nor would I recommend it to my worst enemy!!!!!

This hotel is very quaint, but totally impractical with very unhelpful staff and terrible food.

Located on the High Street in Guildford there is no parking available nor any concessions for any of the local car parks. When enquiring I was told to look for myself, no assistance was offered.

The staff did not bother to acknowledge me when I first arrived, which was rude and then subsequently ignored numerous requests for help duing our time at the hotel.

The breakfast served was disgusting and my partner and friends thought the same.

I was very disappointed as I had much higher expectations than the hotel delivered and considering that the room rate is very expensive in comparison to other local hotels none of us will ever use this hotel again.

Stayed here for a wedding, the hotel was sold as one of the 'Luxury hotels of the world' collection. We were expecting Relais Chateaux standards. OH HOW WRONG we were!!! there was NO Parking!!! the hotel do not run a car valet or parking service. The rooms need re-decorating and are shabby, shabby, shabby! Staff are unhelpful and multi-task, ie. desk person, is porter, is night barman and hang on....isn't he also the duty manager??!! At breakfast we were all served exactly the same plate of cooked breakfast which also included the deligthful experience of powdered scrambled egg - yum, yum!!! GORDON RAMSAY WHERE ARE YOU???? A Kitchen Nightmare candidate if ever i've stayed in one! Oh, and by the way, my husband got blisters on his feet from the trek to and from the car park via cobbled streets ans carrying our bags! Nice!

Arranged to get ready for my wedding in this hotel and 90% of the rooms where booked out to wedding guests. The staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful.
This hotel is on the High street with no parking, and a barrier to the entrance of the street with limited access to the hotel itself. Despite assurances that the staff would open the barrier to the wedding cars they refused and made me 30 minutes late for my own wedding, they even then tried to blame the car company which was down right wrong.
Don't waste your money staying in this hotel, not one of the wedding party had a good experience. Don't risk it!!!

We use this hotel as a base to visit our son and his partner who have an apartment just up the High Street. It was the second time for us and after 18 months we noticed little had changed, except perhaps deteriorated a bit further.
The only thing going for the Angel is the location and access to everything that is Guildford. Shopping and eating out are all just a stroll away.
Car parking is a real problem. Park at great expense in the town multi storey 400 yards away and have a nice walk (in the rain?) back to the hotel.
The hotel has bags of character but has seen no changes for years. It is all tired. The room was at the back of the hotel. Nice and quiet but tired. Small for £155 a night. Bathroom was a good size with bath and seperate shower. Molton Brown toiletries.
There was a wedding on (in the Crypt) but it had no impact on us. There is no restaurant for evening meals but there are so many restaurants close by that this is not a problem.
Breakfast, included in the room rate, is basic but OK.
We will be looking for another hotel next time we come down.
