We stayed at the Inn on the Lake, Godalming for 1 night (2 Nov 2006). Whilst the room was pleasantly furnished, comfortable and with a lovely bathroom, the atmosphere is not that of a hotel. The restaurant/pub below is run as a separate business. There is no check in, room service etc you would normally associate with an hotel charging the pices they do.
You have a "swipe" key to let yourself in after 11/12.00 when the pub has closed.
Breakfast is diabolical - we came down at 9.15 am and there were no croissants or bread. (Again, in view of the room rate, we were astonished that only a Continental Breakfast is offered).
Whilst eating our breakfast (after having to ask for croissants etc) a cleaner decided to hoover round our table (including under our feet!). Same cleaner then followed us to our room (10.00 am) to try to completely strip the bed etc!
Apart from a "snack" and breakfast, we did not eat in the Dining Room, but we did hear from locals that it has a very good reputation for evening dining

Inn on the Lake is a pub that has rooms for people to stay in as well.The room i stayed in was fantastic.

Nice big bed, nice bathroom and a good selection of hot drinks to make. Breakfast was simple (no hot breakfast)...

I guess this hotel would be good if you want to stay away from town but it's in the middle of nowhere and there's hardly anything to do (other than making your way downstairs for a pint or two)

The hotel doesn't have cable/satalite tv so you'll just have to be content with the normal channels.

Overall, i like the room. Just hoped there would have been more to do.

We had a lovely, romantic stay at the Inn on the Lake in 2000 and hoped to repeat it. Unfortuanately ownership had changed. The jacuzzi was missing from our room, along with the "hot cooked" breakfast we so enjoyed. My husband is from Guildford and was very disappointed with the changes. We will not be returning there again. I guess it is so true that things are never as much fun the second time around.
