We booked three particular rooms at the Mandolay way back in January for our daughter's wedding (in May). The rooms were specially chosen as they were the best rooms in the hotel and close together with a little landing, which was perfect for the make up artist etc. On the eve of the wedding the hotel management allowed the brides room to be given to another party who had decided to extend his stay. This meant that our party was split - we were given two rooms on one landing over the other side of the hotel and only one of the rooms we had originally booked. We were VERY disappointed as we had made these plans well in advance and had the numbers of the particular rooms in writing. This was a special occasion for us and we only got a very defensive cursory apology (eventually after 2 emails and 2 unaswered 'phone calls) from the manager.
We had also arranged for a 9.30 breakfast for 27 people in a side room on the morning after the wedding. Management appeared to have neglected to tell the staff this as they were clearing away when we all arrived and there was only a tiny bit of food on offer. The kitchen staff were very helpful and did what they could under the circumstances but it did mean that we had to wait whilst breakfast was cooked and the buffet table was re filled. The manager explained that breakfast usually finishes at 9.30 am which can only mean that he had forgotten to alert the staff to the fact that a side room had been booked (and was full of wedding bouquets) for breakfast for 27 people.
We had requested a bucket of ice and 2 champagne glasses to be put in the newly weds room. These items were put in our (parents of the bride) room by mistake. To rectify this, our room key and the newly wed's key was handed over to one of the guests who went into both of our rooms without permission from us. We did know this person but could reception be sure of this? We have NEVER experienced this before - bad practice?
