“Do not go here under any circumstances!”

Mandolay Hotel

17 Jun 2007

My worst hotel experience ever!!!
The staff were totally unwelcoming and didn't give a toss. The rooms on their website look fairly nice but in reality they were small and hot with cheap furnishings. The bathroom was equipped with 1 piece of shoddy soap, was shabby, not very clean and the smallest bathroom I've ever seen!
Also if you want any sleep at all go somewhere else. We were not informed when booking that the bar/club downstairs would belt out very load music until 2 am. Upon ringing the reception at 1:45 am to complain, I was told that "there was only another 15 minutes to go!". Bloody cheek! We then had to endure a further 30 minutes more listening to the drunks outside while they cleared the place out. How they have the cheek to advertise this place as a hotel I don't know.
The only fortunate thing was that we paid £80 instead of the £150 as advertised behind the reception desk which is totally overpriced.
We didn't dare risk the breaksfasts in the morning and left feeling shattered after very little sleep.
Book the Travelodge down the road instead!

This Hotel is near the town centre so it's a good base for exploring and only a short walk to pubs and restaurants. The staff were friendly and our room was clean and reasonably spacious. There was a good selection from the breakfast buffet . Overall the hotel was a good experience.

Stayed in hotel recently ,had a excellent time. Service and food were to a high standard. The rooms were clean and had no complaints what so ever.
What impressed me the most was how friendly everyone was and made you feel very welcome.
Will go back when have to stay over in guildford again.

“Horrible noisey”

Mandolay Hotel

3 Sep 2006

We stayed at this hotel on Saturday night and the noise level was terrible from the disco below.
The room was smokey and very noise from the loud disco below.
Do not stay at this hotel if you want to get any sleep at all.
It has nothing at all to recommend it, the rooms are small and the bathroom tiny. It is not cheap either for what you get.
Don't go there, we won't be again.
It is amazing that they have the cheek to rent out rooms at all on the weekends, without warning them beforehand about the disco.

We stayed here because of a work event, and the hotel's proximity to the location. Given the choice, we would not have bothered to be honest. It's not cheap either!

The bathroom we had was tiny, and you can easily get stuck in the shower - the door is impossible to open unless you're tall enough to access it from the outside. If you are on your own you stand a good chance of getting trapped.

The bedrooms can get very hot. There is no form of air conditioning and you have to leave the window open. Not only is this a potential security risk, but you may not sleep easily with the noise of the pretentious bar below. The only saving grace is that the bed linen is very comfortable.

Maid service can be a pain. There was no "Do Not Disturb" sign, so you will almost certainly get a knock on the door.

There is no lift to access the upper floors from what we could tell, and the staff did not help us with our luggage at all. Reception staff seemed half asleep when we were checking out.

Worth looking elsewhere.
