I travel a lot for work and have stayed in a lot of hotels. They are all much of a muchness, which is why this place is such a golden find. The “superior double” room was brilliant – there are about 3-4 of them in a smallish, modern one-storey extension out the back.
The single most important thing to me in a hotel room is the bed. The one in the room was 100% perfect. Not too soft, not too hard, a sensible headboard so you can sit up in bed reading of watching telly in comfort. The duvet and pillows were both big, fluffy and crisply clean. 10 out of 10.
The ultra-trendy bathroom only had a shower, but then I rarely if ever get the time to luxuriate in a bath – the shower is more important and this one was a fierce, torrential downpour of a power shower.
It’s the little things that matter; the free chocolate and mineral water in the fridge, being given a small jug of fresh milk to go with the tea/coffee making stuff, an iron & ironing board in the room for those last-minute de-crumplings. How many other places do you know that have an “honesty bar” after 10pm of quality wines, beers and spirits that you help yourself to and write down what you took?
Classy.
