“Lovely B&B”

Lockhurst Hatch Farm

24 Dec 2007

We spent a night at this B&B as all the hotels in the surrounding area were fully booked and we were very pleasantly surprised. I cannot fault the service or the accommodation at all and it is very reasonably priced. The owners Peter and Gill are very welcoming and friendly and Peter does a fantastic cooked breakfast! It's a nice treat to wake up and see Deer outside your window. I would definiltely recommend Lockhurst Hatch Farm if you are staying in this area!

“Real English country B&B”

Lockhurst Hatch Farm

2 Jul 2007

My husband and I booked Lockhurst Hatch Farm for three nights in February 2007. The room was spacious, clean, and there was a nice tea/coffee/cookies set-up. The location is gorgeous countryside and the house itself is really charming and authentic. The owner is friendly and willing to help accommodate questions and needs, and gave us two great restaurant/pub recommendations that we were happy with. Just a couple points to make other travelers aware of:

1) Our flight into London was cancelled due to inclement weather in the UK, which made us miss the first night we booked. Even though we called a day in advance to let them know and were told by the owner's husband that we wouldn't have to pay for the night we missed, when we showed up, the owner made us pay, saying we hadn't given enough advance notice. We were disappointed in this lack of communication.

2) Before you book, realize that you are going into a very authentic English countryside B&B: a family with an extra room to rent. You have to cross through the family room where the children play to get to your room, and you are sharing their hot water supply as well. When we arrived all we wanted was a hot shower, but we realized that not only is there only a bathtub with no shower head (a plastic water pitcher is provided), there was only tepid water. When I told the owner, she apologized and said that her daughers were going to a party that evening and had all just taken baths. "I should have had them wait." My thought is, if you're renting an accommodation, you should simply invest in a small independent water heater for your paying guests.

I don't want to be overly critical because we weren't unhappy with our stay, and the owner was available to answer any questions and did give us a couple nice restaurant recommendations, but I think the two above points bear mentioning, especially since the accommodation was, in our opinion, definitely not budget.

“Loved this B&B”

Lockhurst Hatch Farm

29 Jun 2007

I stayed here recently as I am working in the local area for a few weeks. The owner is very helpful and friendly. I was impressed with the size of the accomodation and the peacefulness of the location. Having 2 self contained rooms is a real bonus. Its only a 15 minute drive into where I am working and only an hour into London on the train, so its also a viable option for visiting London for the day. I would heartily recommend this to anyone, and am definately going to stay here again.

“Excellent B&B”

Lockhurst Hatch Farm

24 Jun 2007

I would recommend staying at Lockhurst Hatch Farm. The accommodation is lovely: a spacious en-suite bedroom within a self contained part of the farmhouse. The room had all conveniences expected, and more, as well as a comfy large four poster bed. Additionally, the room comes with a private sitting room. Gill the owner is very friendly and helpful, and gave us recommendations of local pubs/restaurants and taxi firms. We were on a cycling trip, and I would say that the farmhouse is in a great position to explore the off-road and on-road cycling options in the vicinity.

We had lunch in the White Horse pub in Shere, which was tasty and reasonably priced. Also, we had an evening meal in Kinghams in Shere which was very good. Price wise, Kinghams was about double the price of The White Horse, but at ~£90 for a bottle of wine and two courses, reasonably priced. Kinghams was very busy, so booking ahead is necessary.
