A pretty enough hotel with a convenient location in the centre of a pretty market town.

Check in was fine and the room decor of an acceptable standard but the room stank of stale smoke. I mean really stank. It was disgusting!

The towels were tiny, the pillows as flat as pancakes and the bed gave me awful backache to the point where I couldn't sleep properly.

All in all I would say this is a reasonable hotel let down by the quality and meanness of its housekeeping.

Interestingly there were no comment cards in the bedroom, nor were we asked if we had enjoyed our stay!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel since we were attending a local function and location wise it was ideal. We didn't know what to expect. Check in was ok. I had called in advance to ask for an early check in since we were arriving early and confirmed a non smoking room. Upon arrival, we checked in and were led to our room. The elevator was slow (used it to carry up our luggage) but being a low rise building, after we were settled, the stairs were a better alternative. The room was very small but we had a nice view of the courtyard in the back of the hotel so it was very quiet. The bed was not comfortable at all and very small - I think it was a double. My husband and I are not picky and we were ok with the room since we were only staying for 2 nights. The bathroom, upon entering looked clean except a closer inspection exposed mould around the tub faucets YUCK! There were only 4 towels but they weren't nice big bath towels. There was a hair dryer and iron in the room a tv and a telephone but no alarm clock. However, wakeup calls were available on request. We didn't spend much time in the hotel iteself as we were out most of the day but returning to our room each night, we discovered no housekeeping services! We complained and they said it was an error and made a note but it happened again the next night. When it was time to check out, they did nothing to compensate us for the inconvenience! Then, we tried to get a taxi to go to our function and after waiting 45 minutes (when it would only take 10 minutes according to the front desk) we were told that they couldn't get a taxi! They offered to call another taxi company but advised it would be a little more expensive and when they advised of the cost difference it was 10 times more expensive. Luckily we were able to contact our friends to come pick us up in time so we wouldn't be late for the function! The restaurant was a joke. At 8:00 pm on a Sunday night you couldn't get anything to eat! Everything was closed in the area - not even the coffee shops were open. I would not recommend this hotel unless you just need a place to sleep.

From the moment I checked into the Georgian House Hotel I was impressed with the staff and their friendliness and efficiency. Nothing seemed to much trouble for anyone. I needed directions to a wedding reception so the receptionist printed them for me from a routefinder and got someone to bring them to my room for me. My partner had forgotten his tie so one of the staff lent him one of theirs.

Our bedroom was very clean and well presented and we found the bed very comfortable-both having the best weekends sleep we have had for a long time!

The leisure facilities were a real bonus-we could not face the gym but the heated pool and the jacuzzi were a great way to relax before the wedding.

When we went to check out the duty manager was at the reception desk and she made a point of asking about our stay. This was a great personal touch from her and sums up the attitude of the staff at the hotel from the top down.

I could not recommend the Georgian House Hotel highly enough, our stay was fantastic and the staff were superb. If you are in the area go and stay here.

Probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. We were given a smoking room (which absolutely stank of stale cigarettes) despite having clearly asked for a non-smoking room. The beds were tiny and hard. The pillows were shapeless and there were only 3 of them between the 2 of us. The bathroom floor was still wet from when they had washed it. The service at reception was hopeless. The bar/restaurant was staffed by waiters who seemed to have little idea what they were doing. There are some much better hotels in the area for similar money, so would strongly advise people not to stay at this one.
