If you want to have a hotel that is noisy, filthy, badly run, with rude staff, dirty sheets, horrendous food and is just generally awful...stay at the Royal Station Hotel in Newcastle upon Tyne. My experience there was dreadful.

Go to almost any other hotel in Newcastle to get a better experience.

How they have been awarded three stars is anyones guess!

My room must have been the smallest in the hotel. It was dated and had a musky smell. The curtains were thin which during May made the room bright at 430am. The room was also hot and without A/C. The window opened about 4 inch's to allow air in. Also the main train station is behind the hotel and you can hear the trains.
The staff at the reception were polite and fast.
The breakfast was standard and as expected.
The hotel itself is centrally located however other hotels in the area offer better value.

    • Liked — It does have wireless internet access in the room
    • Disliked — The dated, small and over priced room

“Good And Very Convenient”

Royal Station Hotel

16 Jun 2008

I had a very good business stay at this refurbished hotel which is a really handsome old building with a great staircase for those who like Victorian architecture; good welcome at reception from nice girls, pleasant room service (and speedy) and a nice modern room with all the usual amenities plus a small complimentary mini bar with soft drinks. I couldn't really fault it, the only problem would be for those who are averse to noise - the location means that even from my 4th floor room the Newcastle Friday night scene was all too audible; however, you've got to expect that, haven't you?

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — Clean modern room and well equipped
    • Disliked — holey stair carpet in the foyer

“Great all round”

Royal Station Hotel

4 Jun 2008

Cracking hotel, the only thing I could imagine being an issue would be parking, but we had no problems.

Situated right next to the station we thought we might have a bit of noise but again, no problems.

The room was of an excellent standard for the price (superior with breakfast at £80 on the sunday before bank holiday). Very clean, nice robes and a fridge, safe etc.

Free wireless was nice and easy to connect to and the breakfast was as good as you'll get at any of the big chains.

Fantastic lighting and a real feeling of being in a hotel thats seen a bit of royalty (even if it was an age ago).

All in all a lovely hotel, would love to go back and take in more of the Toon.

“Recently renovated”

Royal Station Hotel

14 May 2008

After spending two nights in a hostel, it was a delightful break!

The room was clean, the staff helpful, and the rest was greatly appreciated.

The hotel rooms have recently gone through a renovation, so they are bright and modern, while the lobby and public areas still has a slight air of wear. Included with the room was a small stock of treats in the fridge included in the cost of the room and free WiFi in the room. However, there was no air conditioning, so in the heat wave, it was a bit muggy after a bath. I had difficulty opening the window, but someone else said she had opened it and all was good once she did that.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — It was beside the train station
    • Disliked — No air conditioning in the rooms, but you can open the window and be "green".
