“Nice hotel”

Holiday Inn Newcastle Upon Tyne

We (family of 4) stayed 1 night on our way north. No problems finding the hotel (arrived late), and check-in was done in a second. We had a family-room with 2 double beds, and there was plenty of room for 4. The room, as well as the rest of the hotel, was very clean, and we enjoyed our stay. Our breakfast was included in the room-rate, and the choices were plentyful. The staff were all very nice, and we would definitely stay here again if we need a hotel near A1.
The only negative comment I have is that the pool area was a little bit "tired" - the kids loved it anyway.

Well situated off the main road, north of Newcastle in Seaton Burn. Unsuitable for Newcastle sightseeing without a car.

Very friendly staff. Renovated bedrroms are on the compact side but perfectly adequate. Two storey, low rise hotel with plenty of rooms and parking. A popular conference centre so book ahead.

Good breakfast but the carvery in the restaurant in the evening of our visit(Mothers Day) was rather tired, with tough beef and vegetables only just warm. Eat somewhere else and this is a fine, quiet place to stay.

Very friendly and helpful reception staff.

“A perfectly good hotel”

Holiday Inn Newcastle Upon Tyne

Yes, it's a somewhat-dated1960s/70s structure located well outside the city centre [but easy road access via the A1 and handy for airport], but an overnight b&b stay here in two rooms was fine, and pretty good value, booked via holiday inn corporate bookings website, supplemented by discussion with the hotel direct. Both all the public areas and our bedrooms were spacious and well-decorated; bedrooms have large, now oldfashioned, clunky aircon units built into wall which worked pretty well once tweaked, but some straightforward instructions on display may help here. Rooms had two comfortable double beds in each and good showers and taps. Evening buffet/carvery in restaurant was good quality and plentiful: fairly pricey [like the spacious bar] but not outrageously so. Breakfast in same venue was fine too, although the cold offerings weren't too extensive compared with the hot traditional stuff. Tea and coffee [and toast] totally selfservice via machines - not a bad thing, for the resulting coffee was at least both real and freshly ground/brewed - sadly, a very rare experience at many UK hotel breakfasts, when the coffee is very often totally disgusting and tea is a very much more prudent choice.
Didn't use the pool etc. facilities, so can't comment thereon.
We were unexpectedly awoken before 8am on a Saturday morning by a chambermaid keen to 'do' the room: maybe our 'fault' for overlooking placement of a 'do not disturb' handledangler but unwelcome nevertheless at that time of morning at a weekend.
Otherwise, though, have to say that all the staff encountered here were exceptionally efficient cheerful friendly helpful and pleasant and an absolute credit to their employers and to 'Investors in People' [noticed plaque on wall] as it should be practised but often isn't, plaques notwithstanding...........

“Tired, dated and not near Newcastle centre”

Holiday Inn Newcastle Upon Tyne

A tired and bleak hotel miles from the city centre. Its only benefit is that it is near the airport. The first room I had had a broken TV and mould in the bathroom as well as off white towels. When moved, the next room was a bit better but still had mould and hairs in the bath.

Quiet enough, breakfast was expensive and should have been included in the exorbitant price for the room though a discount was offered if I paid cash the night before.

Avoid unless really desperate or need to be near the airport. Taxi is £14 to the centre.

The general standard of the rooms/hotel was ok and the staff seemed friendly however as we were only staying there for somewhere to sleep and we had 2 big complaints. Firstly the room was freezing cold and there is only a rather ineffective (and noisy) heating system in the room which took 24hrs to heat up the room to an acceptable tempertaure.
Once warm enough we were kept awake from the noise next door. Now this wasn't the fault of the other guests as they weren't loud or inconsiderate, it was down to a very thin door that separates the rooms in this hotel. A change of room wouldn't have helped as they are all the same. Every word and every movement could be heard which kept us up late and woke us up early in the morning. So if you want a good nights sleep I don't recommend here!
