Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 1 night and i just wish we had longer. The staff were amazing, unfurtunately i was in a wheelchair but they made my stay so easy. The lift was abit small but they lent me there own wheelchair. They booked us a taxi, every member of staff were smart, freindly, extremely helpful and always found time to chat.It really was home from home. The breakfast was unbelievable, everthing you could imagine plus more.I cant wait to go there again.Extremely good value for money. This review is not over exaggerated it is simply facts.I would recommend this as one of the best around and you really are treat like royalty. We will be back!! Thankyou
Also off street parking, large room with huge double/kingsize bed

I stayed in this hotel at the recommendation of my sister who used to live in Newcastle (actually just round the corner from the hotel in Jesmond) and she had also had to travel and stay there several times due to work. She had stayed here before and recommended it as the rates are charged by room and not per person per night which makes it a much more affordable option.

I went down with my boyfriend, my sister and her boyfriend for a two night stay in September and it was perfect for what we were looking for! The hotel is in the nicest (in my opinion) area of Newcastle, Jesmond, and has great transport links just a short walk away. If however, taxi's are more your style then there is handily a rank just by the hotel for nightime trips into the city centre and this is only a five to ten minute taxi ride away (depending on how mental your taxi driver is!!!)!

The room we stayed in, (my sis and her man were just next door) was a bit of a walk from reception but it had been recently decorated and was much nicer than some of the other rooms in the hotel (I sneaked a peek as I was walking past some open doors!)! As for the service it was friendly and efficient without being intrusive. The rooms were clean and anything we requested - eg fresh towels - were delived quickly and without fuss. The hotel bar (Osbornes) and the resturant were both brill and had a fab relaxed atmosphere.

If you are looking for top notch standards then perhaps this is not the hotel for you - it does not have the exclusive or luxury feel of other hotels I have stayed in - however, it is a small, quirky and fun hotel in a great location and really well priced. I really can't fault much about this hotel however I wouldn't like a room at the front of the hotel as these could ba bit noisy if you were looking for an early night!

“mixed feelings”

New Northumbria Hotel

My husband booked this hotel as a surprise for me so we could celebrate New Years Eve in newcastle in the pubs and clubs, we are both only a young 38 and enjoy a drink and partying but also like to stay in superior establishments.
My hubby booked a superior room through a travel website at £88 per person for the 1 night total cost £176.
The reception was adequate but as others had commented he had paid in full but they still insisted on taking my Hubby's credit card details???
We made our way to our room up the creeky stairs and along the creeky corridors, when we reached our room the keycard would not work and my hubby had to treck all the way back to reception to sort this out.
When we entered our 'Superior room' it was quite large with plenty of space, tidy, clean, and smelled fresh. But these are thebasic things I would expect from any room.
The hotel Italian restaraunt next door is very nice, great food, service and value. We had a starter each of tomatoe garlic bread, mains where meatball Spaggetti HUGE PORTIONS!! and shrimp pasta dish also HUGE!! with bread and butter at the table very yummy and 2 alcholic drinks, all for £28...great value for great fresh food.
However at the end of our great evening in the town, we returned to our Hotel at around 2.30am and it was still bustling with revellers at the hotel bar. We at that time wanted to get to sleep as we had to be up in the morning for the long drive home to Bolton, We are not party poopers and love to party ouselves and yes it was New Years Eve, but having booked a superior room/hotel we did not expect our surrounding neighbours in the hotel to then at aroun 3am to proceed to one and others room shouting sexual content to one another......I could go on but its too graffic!!!! and the same group then to begin threatening each other and a male attempting to kick the door in to a girl if she didnt open it!
This was all very disturbing and I was shocked that it was allowed to carry on for what seemed hours, it only stopped when I heared a male shout from his room for them to all stop as he had had enough, for this I was very thankfull and he was much braver than me, I was too frightened to even look outside my room.
So all in all, I have very mixed feelings about this hotel as I do think that at a different time of year maybe this kind of behaviour may not occur???? who knows?? hope this helps.

“Are you polite?”

I was a bit worried after reading the last few reviews on here, especially the ones about noise as I had to get up early for work and wanted to sleep! So, I sent the hotel a polite email asking for a quiet room. I was also expecting the staff from hell, although my previous experience of Newcastle made me think this would be surprising. So here is a candid view from a middle aged female on her own.

Arrived at the hotel and was pleasantly surprised by a warm welcome at the desk. Yes they did take my card swipe despite company paying room but all hotels do this in case you raid the minibar. Room 308 is right at the back of the hotel, overlooking those chairs another reviewer speaks of! It is however in a quiet position well away from the noisy front of hotel. Although it is off the second floor it is well signposted. It is a very small room with a single bed, very clean, nice heat, good bed. Bathroom is clean but was cold due to lack of window covering and the door looked as if someone was trying to undo the lock - those were the bad points. There is one other bad point which I became aware of on day two. The door in the corner connects to the room next door- I guess my room can interconnect for kids- and it was empty first night. Second night they came back at 1 in the morning, and althought they were not being loud there was a hum of conversation for half an hour which was annoying but not the end of the world. So, not too bad. The Italian restaurant is great and the staff very friendly. At breakfast, the head waiter was not that cheery but efficient and the girls were cheery enough. Food was fine - coffee was the worst thing - no cafetiere just stewed from a Cona machine. I had tea the second day! I had to check out early for various reasons not to do with the hotel and they were fine about that too. The maids were all cheerful in the mornings too and greeted me!

So, staff were very good, decor dated but room clean, Italian great, breakfast 6/10 ( I like my coffee). If you are booked in there, ask for a quiet room at the back. Although you will see the famous chairs it is much quieter!

“Shocking...”

New Northumbria Hotel

1 Dec 2007

Stayed here on a saturday night as working in Newcastle early on Sunday - rooms booked and paid by company. On arrival
had to produce own credit card even though they had the company one written down. Couldn't find my room due to the fact the girl sent me to the wrong floor - not entirely her fault, who on earth names a room 302 on the 2nd floor...
Tiny single room circa 1975 decor, tv didn't work....but the worst part was the noise - unbelievable, doors slamming in the hotel
until 2am, no sound proofing at all...terrible nights sleep & I can normally sleep standing up so it was truly awful.
Breakfast was at 7 and we got death stares from the staff when we arrived ( at 7 ).
What can i say - AVOID at all costs...
