“Was the Worst Hotel I have ever stepped in to”

Hadrian Lodge Hotel

I booked this hotel in Newcastle as my boyfriend was in the Great North Run. It was booked in March.

On the internet it looked like a nice hotel, says its 10 minutes from central, nice rooms and restaurant attached. What a perfect place you say to your self.

I got there on the Friday and was surprised by the look of the building when I got off the metro. It was further out than I thought and the area looked very unsafe. On the other side of the metro line looked like a council estate. Right next door is a BOC industral estate and is on a very busy main road.

The hotel in side itself is VERY dated, the rooms are very minimal, the room that was given to us was through the bar area. The door didnt lock, the window in the room was overlooking the main road with a crossing, the furniture was old and the bed was not comfortable. The restaurant looked like a working mans club with an off smell.

Outside there was no where to eat, no other pubs or restaurants. The one plus point was that the metro was right opposit the hotel, too close probably!.

From the poor outcome of the hotel, the price that they charged was not supported by the hotel standards. We were due to stay at this hotel for 4 nights and within 30 minutes of being in this building, we decided to leave. This was not a place whereby you could rest and relax after a long run.

If any one is doing the great north run next year, I would not recommend this hotel. We ended up staying in Jesmond and Osbourn road has loads of hotel and b&b's. This is an ideal locataion, safe and is only 10 minutes walk into Haymarket and the start of the race.

“DId the job nicely”

Hadrian Lodge Hotel

I was looking for a cheap hotel that wouldn't fuss over my very late arrival... this place fit the bill. Yes, the room was a tad shabby and the tv didn't work, but the shower was great and the breakfast was good. No noise in the hotel, and contrary to reviews on here, it is not difficult to find if you can read a map.

The staff were pretty good and the price was great - no question about that.

We stayed at the Hadrian Lodge for one night, as we were in Newcastle for a quick visit to see some friends. The Hotel was tricky to find, it appears to be in the middle of an industrial estate. It is also quite out of the way of local attractions/amenities, however it is right opposite the metro station so it was easy to get into the city itself. The rooms were basic and a little dated but clean. We had a double room which cost us £65 for the night. This included breakfast. There are no amenities as such but there is a bar if you are there for the evening. Breakfast came in with the price of the room and made it very good value. There was fruit, yoghurt, cooked breakfasts, a choice of cereal and toast. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Stayed for 1 night whilst in Newcastle for a concert, booked at last minute so not very many places left, this one was one of the cheapest and right across from the Metro. Cant say I was impressed with where the Lodge was (seemed to be in an industrial area - from the photos I expected it to be in a more scenic place). We were "greeted" by a female member of staff who could have been a bit more welcoming and was a tad dissapointed with the rooms but obviously you get what you pay for.
On the plus side we had a lovely full english breakfast, the rooms (although very dated) were clean and the other staff we met were pretty friendly.

You pay for what you get. We chose this hotel as it was less expensive than others in the area. Stayed two nights and although the rooms were basic the staff were really freindly.

The food was excellent, fantastic cooked breakfast but also alternatives if you want a healthier start to the day. We eat both evenings in the hotel and the food was good value.

Overall a nice basic place to stay.
