My husband and I stayed at this hotel for three nights for a 'City Break'. We really wanted to stay in Newcastle city centre but were put off by reviews of noisy hen parties, so decided we would stay outside the city.
As soon as we checked in we were informed the hotel had just been taken over by the Premier Inn group and it was obvious the staff were rather stunned and upset by this. However they were friendly and efficient and we were pleased with our room.
As has been mentioned in other reviews, the bathroom is quite small and the basin is located in the actual bedroom. This did not bother us and the huge shower certainly made up for it anyway! However, there was nowhere to hang a handtowel by the basin and there were no drawers in the room at all, just a quite small, open fronted 'wardrobe'. We had to leave a lot of our clothes in our suitcase as we had no-where to put them. We also found the bed to be very soft and quite uncomfortable. As the hotel is due to be refurbished by the Premier Inn Group, doubtless they will address these problems.
The location of the hotel is rather strange as it's a bit 'out in the sticks' and quite a distance f from Newcastle itself. Taxis cost around £7 each way, but there is a bus stop nearby and several buses will take you into the City centre for £1.50 each.
The breakfast is £8.50 per person but we found several pleasant cafes/restaurants in the City serving good breakfasts at less than half that price, so we used these instead.
We ate in the hotel restaurant on the Sunday evening and found the food and service to be good and quite reasonably priced.
We paid a total of £217 for three nights room only and thought it was very good value for money. We would happily stay there again.
