I was meant to stay here twice. First time I turned up to check in I was politely informed there was a double booking and I was moved to Malmaison. The check in staff dealing with this potenetially explosive issue did very well and included taxis.

When I stayed here on my 2nd trip to Newcastle it was a little of a let down. The room is lovely, the location is great for business or shopping but this can make it a non quiet night's sleep. Incredibly comfy though so if you get a quiet room then it is fab.

The slight service issue is the consistenancy of the staff and possible levels. The bar in the basement is too small to be able to carry an atmosphere. Maybe that was why the barman never was in there when I went down!

Reception staff were hit and miss; checking in not good, checking out better but slow. Considering the impression I had built up from 'non staying' I have to say disappointed but I am willing to consdier it a bad one off.

Originally being from the area, I have always wanted to stay at this hotel as I had heard excellent reviews. I already knew that the location was among the best in Newcastle, and Grey Street is famed for its fabulous architecture, so I hoped that the inside of the building had held onto a lot of its original features. I wasn't dissapointed. Our room was spacious, with one of the biggest, most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. Our room also had one of the 'infamous' cream carpets, which looked as new, so not quite sure what all the fuss is about in that respect. Nice touches included ground coffee and a caffitiere in the room.
Breakfast was good, cooked fresh, rather than sat under a hot lamp for most of the morning and the staff in the restaurant were really plesant and friendly.
My only disappointment, which, to be fair is most likely the local councils fault, was the parking situation. We stayed for 2 nights, checking in on the Friday at 3pm. Parking in the designated space in Dean Street cost us an additional £5 but only covered from 4.30pm til 9.30am on the Saturday, meaning that we had to get up early the next morning to arrange more parking for the Saturday til 4.30pm (at £1 per hour) before we could purchase another pass from the hotel. Luckily we managed to come to an arrangement with the parking attendant, as the hotel was unable to offer any better solution
That aside I was rather impressed with this hotel, and would stay again.

Just got back from a 2 night stay at the hotel with my girlfriend. Its a great hotel in a fantastic location only a short walk from all the attractions and night life, but you wont be disturbed as it has triple glazing. Rooms are a good size and the beds are very comfortable. Upon returning to our room on the second day the soap had gone, extra loo roll had not been provided and the shower gel had not been replensihed but a quick mention to the reception and this was quickly sorted out. Would definitely recommend this hotel. People moaning about the carpets need to realise that cream carpets dont stay pristine for long and are hardly noticeable.

Really nice hotel, we had a deluxe room which was beautiful, very clean, lovely sheets, big towels and so on. The staff were really helpful too.Breakfast was only ok, but not the worst I've had!
The room had nice decor, bed, chairs, table and so on. Would definitely stay again.

We endured this hotel for one night. We travelled up from North Wales for our sons wedding and had the misfortune to pick this hotel, as a stopover before continuing on to Langley Castle.
Our party comprised of eleven adults including groom to be.
We were promised the rooms would be newly refurbished, but were put in substandard accomodation. Some of our party were eventually given better rooms but our suite was well below the standard expected. Apologetic staff. Don't bother with breakfast !!!
If you like vomit stained carpets, and a general lack of cleanliness try this hotel.
