I stayed for tewlve nights in December this year The location is fantastic and the rooms and fittings are great. However I found the noise from the street and shops very bad and intrusive 24 hours a day. Drunken yobs at midnight, garbage collection and shop deliveries from 5.30 am and loud music from the shops until closing.Customer service was hopeless. My room was not serviced for six days and only when I complained. Despite three requests, lights were not fixed in the bedroom and kitchen area and kitchen utensils not supplied.

I would not recommend the apartments. There are better alternatives in Newcastle.

We stayed here whilst visiting our son at uni and I can confirm that these apartments really are four star. Very well presented and capable of providing a comfortable stay well in excess of the two days we were there.

Only a couple of minor negatives to do with the noise from outside (well it is in the middle of the city!) and also the smell in the entrance due to being above to fast food outlets (The Deli is great for breakfast!).

Dont let the above put you off , our room didn't smell and a few pints soon lets you forget about the outside world!

“High Quality accomodation”

Very high quality apartment accomodation in central location. All mod cons including flat screen digital television, wooden floorboards, modern kitchen units etc. The rooms were large and comfortable. If there was a downside it was the dreadful entrance and the Burger King and Gregg outlets underneath but that is more to do with City Planners than the apartment itself. Highly recommended.

“Second Visit - Still great, but with some frustrations!”

Came back to the City Apartments for my second stay inside 3mths. Booked 3 double rooms to accommodate 12 people (same gender group).

At the time of booking, i made my requirements explicit, and i made special emphasis that our group would be all male, and we didnt want to share a double beds. Fine, " we can do double rooms with 'zip & link' double beds which we can separate into 4 single beds".

All well and good until we show up only to find that 2 of the of the rooms allocated to us didnt have zip & link beds, but standard double beds which could not be split. Not a great problem because these apartments have 2 or 3 sofas, one of which converts into a modern comfy spring action matressed sofa bed, however the 3rd room allcated to us was a single bedroom, which had a zip and link bed, and one sofa bed, which left us a bed down for our group of 12!

So after some heated debate with the receptionist ("its not my problem, i've just allocated you what it says on my system - I'm 7mths pregnant - i dont need this!!). Once sorted they eventually allocated us an extra single bed apartment.

The apartments are hi-spec, and everything was in fine working order except for some problems with the hot water supply in one of our apartments which inexplicabley would not produce sufficient hot water on the first night of our stay...cue 2x freezing cold showers!

The problem was rectified when we discovered the hot water fuse had tripped. Other than that it was a faultless stay in every other respect.

In my opinion, and of those in our group, what sets this place apart, is its central location. We spent a w/end in the 'Toon' and didnt use a taxi; we walked everywhere, all main areas easily reached on foot; Central Station, St James',Quayside, Bigg Market and the main areas of nightlife activity.

If youre not up for cooking breakfast in your apartment - no problem, breakfast can be got from the Deli under the apartments until 1030am, or across the road in Fenwicks department store restaurants (Terrace or Patio restaurants). There is fast food 50yds away, ATM 2 steps from the front door, coffee shops 100yds, snooker club 100yds, great bar (Pacific) 100yds, and all routes leading to the Tyne Bridge/Quayside in under a 15min walk.

In my opinion, you simply wont find a better located place to stay anywhere in Newcastle. The apartments are modern, clean and comfortable, with all mod cons.

I wouldnt stay anywhere else frankly, and highly recommend it.
