The old Manor House building is indeed spectacular, and the reception staff were pleasant and welcoming. However our room (218) was a very very long walk from the reception area, and as we progressed, the carpet became threadbare and very well worn in parts, and the building looked uncared for and even shabby . When we entered the room it was absolutely freezing and the reason for this was the large window's catch was broken and refused to close. I called reception immediately as we were paying £167.00 for one night's bed and breakfast. A charming young man came to the room and agreed the window was broken, and the room was unacceptably cold. We were moved, with his help, to room 24, very near to reception, and far warmer. There were a couple of extra charges that we were not made aware of prior to booking. Firstly, the car park charge, and secondly a charge for WiFi. In today's modern business world, it is absolutely de rigeur that WiFi is available to all. With the exorbitant charge for rooms, I find these extra charges just greedy, and we were astonished that they were additional to the bill.
Breakfast was a very good experience. The French wait staff ( a young man and a Parisienne girl) were absolutely delightful, and nothing was too much trouble. Alveston Manor definitely needs money spending on the 'modern' wing. Peeling paint and threadbare carpets are unacceptable, and with the location, the Manor could have a monopoly on other tourist hotels in this area. Although our weekend in Stratford itself was very nice on the whole, if we came again, we would choose an alternative accommodation. I really did expect a lot more for the price charged and because we have previously stayed in the Macdonald Randolph Hotel in Oxford. which is far superior.
Ask for either a room in the actual Manor House, or a room near reception- definitely avoid 218!

Thank you for yuor comments, we are sorry if we did not meet with expectations on your recent visit to the Alveston Manor. Macdonald Hotels is committed to a full refurbishment of our bedrooms and we hope that this will commence in the not too distant future. We have passed your comments about WIFI to our Head Office; our car park is operated by a third party, in order that we can offer a safe and secure environment in which our guests can park, the charge is kept to a minimum and is per stay, it is in line with other hotels located within the town.
