“Poor quality hotel - excellent restaurant!”

Had to make a quick booking (family illness). Had a quick look on the web and this looked / seemed fine? Thai Hotel - sounds & looks ok on the web?
Car parking is awful (phone photo) - room for 3 at a squash on the actual car park (over taken by tables & chairs) - room for 2 - 3 at a squash on the pavement otherwise you are at the mercy of the on-street regulated parking (9am x 5pm @ 2hrs max Mon-Sat) - if you can find a nearby space!
Walls between bedrooms are very thin, so you need to be able to enjoy next doors TV &/or chatter - not very nice if it goes on into the wee small hours! Plus others coming & going (someone mentioned this previously)!
Room was very spacious (phone photo) and facilities ok - but mattress had definitely seen better days as has the shower (peeling ceiling). Too much furniture in rooms and only a small wardrobe under the TV!
Excellent restaurant. Excellent Food & Choice. Excellent attentive friendly polite & well dressed staff. Poor / tired / worn furniture in the bar and we wondered if the 'locals' (discussing other local premises) were rejects from other premises due to the constant profanities used (we are not prudes, but this was awful)? NO, we would NOT use this as a hotel again, nor recommend it - sorry!

    • Liked — Lovely restaurant, menu, food, staff - Large rooms - 30 yards from town centre - fairly easy to find. You can take a drink to your room!
    • Disliked — No car parking at or near hotel of any use. Paper thin walls. Poor bar furniture. You need to take a drink to your room (helps you sleep & keeps you away from the bar users)!

We loved the location of the Globe, about 30 seconds walk to the town square. The room we had was brilliant ,decorated in Thai style, free water and plenty of tea & coffee, not much of a view from the window , but it didn't bother us. The breakfast was lovely and very filling. There are loads of great eateries in walking distance from wetherspoons type to seafood and Italians(especially Piccolinos). We are not great Thai eaters but other guests said it was a lovely restaurant at the hotel .

“Loved the Globe Thai Hotel”

Globe Hotel

13 Apr 2008

We have just spent a fantastic weekend at the globe hotel, The atmosphere was great, staff very friendly and those that could not understand english got somebody who could. The food was excellent. This is not a hotel for somebody expecting to be all english. We wanted to come here because it was going to be different, There was a couple of minor things that happened with the plumbing, we told reception about..Otherwise we will gladly go back there for another weekend stay

“A new experience”

Globe Hotel

11 Oct 2007

October 2007
I have stayed at the Globe for one night on two seperate occasions in the last two weeks. My experience would certainly echo that of Akkrenskarin and certainly NOT that of the other contributors.
It was with a degree of trepidation that I found that the company that I work for had booked me into a hotel with a Thai restaurant.
Never having tried Thai food before I decided to give it a go. Check-in was courteous and soon completed. The first room was clean and tidy and decorated in a very pleasant Thai style with heavy wooden carved chairs etc. The bed was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was similar. There was no telephone but that was no great problem. The room was oppressively hot but the supplied electric fan reduced that although it was necessary to have it on all night.
The welcome and seating in the restaurant was friendly and efficient. The menu explained the Thai dishes in English with some having names such as 'Weeping Tiger'. By 8pm the restaurant was pleasantly well seated for a Monday night with the sound of relaxed conversation and laughter. I was not disappointed in any way by the food. It was hot, delicious and the service was prompt and friendly.
Breakfast was advertised from 7am but on the following day it was nearer 7.15 by the time the restaurant was open. Still, it was an opportunity for a short walk and some fresh air.
Check-out was quick. All in all I was very pleased. The staff were very polite and courteous with no communication problems. A little mis-understanding perhaps, but that's all.
My second visit was similar to the first. A different room with not much of a view (albeit over the rooftops). Having a magnificent view isn't worth much in the night! I had seen the videos and I did have a telephone this time (not required) but no VCR on either visit, wouldn't have watched it anyway. There was no shaver socket in the bathroom but adaptors were available from reception. Most regular travellers will probably have one anyway.
Some people will always find something to complain about. For me staying at the Globe has been a very pleasant and enjoyable experience and I'm looking forward to the next time which won't be long!!
