Annexe is a little way out of the centre of Birmingham, but is an excellent choice for a good value meal. The restaurant is spacious and has a lovely room which was quite busy on a thursday night. On arrival we were asked if we wanted to have a drink in the bar which was ok, but not greatly comfortable to linger in and could be improved by adding a few sofas and comfortable chairs. The food in the main restaurant is decent, but not as fantastic as the reviews on tripadvisor suggest. The menu is large with some good specials on offer, but maybe could be enhanced by being a little more condensed. My vegetarian options were good, but could be better. The service was mostly ok, but the waitress seemed a little unprepared, and in need of more input from the restaurant. though the matre de seemed helpful and friendly and enhanced the evening. I can only presume that the Annexe is number one on this site due to its good value and pleasant charm. In a way the Annexe is a strange place, I think it is going in the right direction but can improve in all departments. This would make it worthy of being so well regarded. This though shouldn't detract from us or anyone from visiting for a good night out, just don't expect it to be a good as the reviews on here say it is. Annexe is a welcome addition to Birmingham's dining scene, which I look forward to seeing develop into its concept over time. A good diversion from the main area of the city. We look forward to visiting again soon.
