Stayed one night in December with husband and teenage daughter. Staying in a city we would usually stay in a 4* Holiday Inn/Crowne Plaza or similar, but due to lack of suitable rooms we made our first visit to the 3* Jurys Inn.
Hotel easy to find, and great having the car park next to the hotel - parking for 24 hours is about £10. The Reception area was lovely - airy, VERY spacious. The reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful - as indeed they had been when we made our phone booking. The lifts were super efficient.
We had a room on the 9th floor with 2 double beds. The room was fine - none of the 'frills' you would get in a 4* but it had everything you needed. Housekeeping was very efficient and friendly when bringing supplies for a third occupant. Only problem was the temperature - the room was freezing when we arrived. We turned on the heating up to the maximum 24 degrees and left a key card in the slot when we went out to keep the heating on - if you don't it turns off automatically. When we came back from the theatre later the room was lovely and warm.
Breakfast was a litle odd at first - the entire process was self service - not only food but cutlery, condiments, drinks - the lot! However, the buffet was fine, and the cooked food was piping hot and not at all greasy.
The location of the hotel is great - within walking distance of New St station, and a few minutes walk from the icc, nia and shopping areas. Previous review said there weren't any good restaurents locally - maybe we arn't so discerning but we found numerous lovely eateries within 10 minutes walk of the hotel. There is a taxi rank directly outside the hotel which always had plenty of cabs available.
All in all a good, value for money hotel. The night's accomodation including breakfast for 3 of us cost £86 (booked by phone a couple of weeks before we went), although the 'rack rate' is £185 for a double. Just the job for a short stay in the hub of Birmingham's cultural and night life. We would definately consider this chain for future city stays.
