“Good location, could do with a make over”

Me and my fiance stayed at these apartments last summer.

Our apartment was overlooking the flower market behind the apartments, which isnt the best view.

We had to pay a security bond of £250, which was bit of a shock seeing as we werent told about this when booking.

The apartment itself was grubby, with marks on the wall. The carpet was also filthy, especially in the bedroom.

Upon check out, we had to watch for the receptionist to go and inspect the room before we were given our bond back, which isnt very good if you are in a rush to get somewhere.

The bed was comfy, and the set up of the apartments are good. There was a lot of noise outside once the clubs/bars had closed, but this is to be expected when staying in the city centre on a Saturday night.

I first stayed at the Premier Apartments for several months back in late 2005 and it was fine. However, having returned for a four-day stay in July 2007 it's sad to have to report that many things have changed here. The main problem is the general upkeep. My kitchen had a huge burn mark on the worktop, no tea towel or oven glove, sparse and dirty cutlery, and the shelving in the fridge was missing. The TV was difficult to use with a remote control that didn't seem to work and the walls were full of scuff marks. A huge problem in the summer months is the stifling heat of the building. There's no air conditioning and the street outside is very noisy so having the windows open all night is not really an option.

Now for the plus points (because there are some). The apartments themselves are very roomy. The bedroom (despite a bedside lamp with no switch) was fine and the bed extremely comfortable. The bathroom was okay, although again here too there was evidence of a lack of care and upkeep over the months. The lady at reception was very polite and helpful on check-in.

So in summary, great concept but poor execution. What's sad is that this used to be a great place to stay but it does seem to be going downhill. It does seem, as stated earlier, to be an upkeep/housekeeping problem in the main because I've been to the Premier Apartments in Manchester and they're much better maintained.

We booked this apartment for four of us for one night, and one night is certainly enough.
As we entered the apartment there was a foisty smell. The walls had black marks everywhere. There was a hole in the wall under the light switch. In the main room, the cooker hood was filthy, full of grease. The carpets in the bedrooms were very dirty with huge stains all over. The bathroom was grubby. At the side of the toilet seat was a suspicious brown stain. Not nice.
When we complained, we were given the keys to a couple of one bedroom apartments, and given an apology.
These apartments were even worse. The carpets were more dirty than the last. There was cigarette burns on the furniture, and the place smelt of stale smoke ( even though we had requested a non smoking room). In the bedroom, behind the bin, there was coffee stains all over the skirting boards and the wall. In the bathroom the toilet had been used and not flushed, there was what looked like pubic hair in the bath.
A woman who intoduced herself as Anne came to see us,explaining that she was the assistant manager, in charge of room cleaning. She was very apologetic and arranged for us to be moved again to a clean room (not much to ask for when your paying £125 a night) .
We eventualy were given two single bedroom apartments that were clean and tidy, quite nice.
If we could of, we would of booked another hotel there and then, but we didn't have the time because we were in Birmingham for our daughters graduation ceremony, a special occasion. The reason we booked the Premier apartments in the first place was because we have stayed in the same apartments in Manchester and they are beautifuly well maintained.

I have just returned from 3 nights stay at premier apartments, nothing premier about them I would say!!
I was working at the NEC with a colleague and we thought it would be nice to be central with an apartment so we could have several evenings in relaxing.
On Arrival we where greeted by a lovely man on reception who was very helpful, although we found out that there was only limited parking and we had to book before hand, this information was not offered when booking the apartment.

We had a 2 bed roomed apartment that looked over a very smelly and revolting market distribution site. As you can imagine lorries would be in and out all evening off loading there goods into the stores and by 5am it was so incredibly noisy impossible to sleep with lorries and fork lifts and people shouting. The apartments for some reason where extremely hot, the weather was very mild but I felt like I had slept in an oven, not being able to open the windows because of the noise didn’t help.

The apartment was spacious, but I am glad I took my slippers, I do not want to comment on the state of the carpet as the stains where that bad, I was unable to use the wardrobe as there seemed to be something rotting with in the carpet, yes this made my stomach churn!! The apartment had not been properly cleaned in a very long time, there was even a lovely brown present left for us in the main bathroom toilet, disgusting!!!
The lady (girl) that ran the reception was very disinterested, unhelpful and quite rude, so we knew that nothing would be done.

Such a shame these could have been so nice and are very central in my opinion 2*!

I would not stay again.

“Christmas Break (almost a disaster!)”

I stayed at these apartments last Christmas (2005) and my partner and I decided to make another shopping trip this year. As we found the apartments to be reasonably priced and in good condition the last time we decided to go with them again. We got a rate of 220.00 GBP (330.00 Euro) for 4 nights which is very good considering some of the high priced, low standard hotels around Birmingham.
However, we were quite disappointed on this occasion. The apartment was fine as usual, I've never had a problem with heating/water/air con or noise when I've stayed there. The only problem was that the apartment was facing the flower market and business for that place starts early and finishes VERY late! Even still, we managed to get several late lie ins! There are smoking and no smoking rooms and this was honored by the apartments. There was a long queue when we were checking in and I did find the staff to be somewhat rude about it. I had been waiting for two people in front of me and when it was my turn, someone else had just walked in the main door behind me. When I walked to the desk the staff said quite rudely 'you have to wait if you've just come in'. Well, that aside, the check in was ok apart from the £250 deposit. Of course I knew about that having stayed there before but they really should advertise it on their website at least because you have to phone them to find out how much it will be.
When checking in they gave us the security code for the door and said that it may be changed during our stay but that we would be advised. We went about our holiday as usual and went to a concert in the Carling Academy on our last night there. I did not feel well so decided to head back early, leaving my partner at the gig. When I got back to the apartments I found that the security code did not work and there was no one on the reception. No one had informed us that it had been changed and I found myself stranded on a very dark street with several dodgy-looking people around. I had to go into the Spar shop next door and ask the staff there if they knew the code (where I am from this would be normal to give keys and that to the place next door to watch). No one in the shop was any more helpful except for a lady who went out back to check if there was any way through the car park. I was panicking at this stage because I was on my own in a strange place and its not the friendliest place at night for a woman. I had to call my partner and get him to come back to me. Eventually after standing in the shop for about 20 minutes, someone who was staying in the apartments as well came into the shop and gave me a security code to get in. Interestingly he said that he wasn't told the new code either but he stayed there often and knew a sort of master code to get in. I found this to be very unacceptable as the number they give you on the door to call in case of emergency goes straight to an answer machine. I didnt find the staff to be very sympathetic to our trouble the following day either. I don't think that we will be making the return journey to Birmingham this Christmas due to the problems we experienced here last year.
