I recently stayed at The White Swan and could not believe the changes. After reading the last review I was quite worried as to what to expect, but on arrival and finding out the place had received a total refurbishment I was delighted. Highly worth a visit, I will definately be returning!!

“A poor excuse for a hotel on a busy main road”

I booked this hotel after reading a couple of positive reviews, and it just goes to show how you shouldn't always believe what you read.
The hotel is situated on an extremely busy main road, and getting out of the car park at busy periods can be a nightmare. The room was old and had no bedside lights - difficult to read in bed at night ! The ceiling light didn't work, the old hard wired kettle lead had been left on the dressing table despite a new kettle on a cabinet by the bed? There were large gaps under the bedside cabinets, and for some reason the furniture looked as if it had been dumped in a skip and then reclaimed.
There was a tiny tv which could just manage to receive four mainstream channels (not channel 5 for some reason), and no teletext. The people who run these establishments must try to keep guests out of their rooms and such a tv works a treat for me !
The wall tiles in the bathroom must be 30 years old, had a horizontal settlement crack running across them, and there was thick brown flaking rust around the bath handle and taps.
The walls must be pretty thin, as at 9-00pm, the guy in the next room knocked to ask me to reduce the volume on the telly.
The bed was one similar to those sold on market stalls and the mattress was so thin if you sat on it you sank onto the base.
The downstairs pub appears to model itself on a Toby, catering being the way to attract customers. Unfortunately, on the day I arrived it smelled of old stale cooking oil, which put me off eating there.
I still can't get over the breakfast room, where there are four long tables lined up, each seating up to twelve guests, so rather like the old Butlins or school canteen. you are forced to eat your breakfast jointly with whoever decides to sit at your table - weird !
I can't even recommend the breakfast, which was a cheap sausage, two small slices of fatty back bacon, a greasy fried egg and a tomato.
This place is pretty awful and needs a major makeover. Go back ? I'd rather spend a night in a tent on a boggy marsh surrounded by mosquitoes.

My sister and i have stayed at THE SWAN many times and have always been very pleased with whole experience. We are always treated very well by all the staff who are all very hard working and friendly. The meals are fantastic, well presented and with a very good choice of dishes and well cooked. The breakfast's are lovely and are also cooked to perfection. The room we stay in is clean and bright and very well kept as is the whole hotel, we love it and will be back next year.

Booked 2 rooms for one night through www.laterooms.com. The hotel had no note of our booking, but as I am not sure whose fault that is, I can not mark the place down for it.
Had one twin room and one room with a double and single room. Both rooms were large enough and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. There was a TV and plenty of tea and coffee. The main road outside is noisy until 23:00 and turning right when leaving can be difficult.
The pub was very quiet for a Friday night, but there was a World Cup Football match on. The food menu is very extensive, but although edible failed to live up to my expectations. Breakfast was however excellent, even though the Corn Flakes were not Kellogs.
We paid £42 for a room including breakfast. The advertised rate at reception is £44.95 plus £6.95 for breakfast.
