I booked this hotel after reading a couple of positive reviews, and it just goes to show how you shouldn't always believe what you read.
The hotel is situated on an extremely busy main road, and getting out of the car park at busy periods can be a nightmare. The room was old and had no bedside lights - difficult to read in bed at night ! The ceiling light didn't work, the old hard wired kettle lead had been left on the dressing table despite a new kettle on a cabinet by the bed? There were large gaps under the bedside cabinets, and for some reason the furniture looked as if it had been dumped in a skip and then reclaimed.
There was a tiny tv which could just manage to receive four mainstream channels (not channel 5 for some reason), and no teletext. The people who run these establishments must try to keep guests out of their rooms and such a tv works a treat for me !
The wall tiles in the bathroom must be 30 years old, had a horizontal settlement crack running across them, and there was thick brown flaking rust around the bath handle and taps.
The walls must be pretty thin, as at 9-00pm, the guy in the next room knocked to ask me to reduce the volume on the telly.
The bed was one similar to those sold on market stalls and the mattress was so thin if you sat on it you sank onto the base.
The downstairs pub appears to model itself on a Toby, catering being the way to attract customers. Unfortunately, on the day I arrived it smelled of old stale cooking oil, which put me off eating there.
I still can't get over the breakfast room, where there are four long tables lined up, each seating up to twelve guests, so rather like the old Butlins or school canteen. you are forced to eat your breakfast jointly with whoever decides to sit at your table - weird !
I can't even recommend the breakfast, which was a cheap sausage, two small slices of fatty back bacon, a greasy fried egg and a tomato.
This place is pretty awful and needs a major makeover. Go back ? I'd rather spend a night in a tent on a boggy marsh surrounded by mosquitoes.
