“Very good hotel in search of a soul”

The Goodwood Park Hotel

26 Mar 2008

We had a standard double over the Easter weekend 2008.

The hotel has recently been bought by Lord March and is no longer a Marriott. They're currently in the process of redecorating to remove the Marriott stamp, so during our stay there was some painting and decorating going on, but nothing too intrusive. What they've done looks good.

Rooms are fine and the beds are massive. Very quiet. Sky sports in the rooms.

Very attentive staff. A lot of them are clearly new and they're still in trying-too-hard mode, but that's not really a fault..

Good facilities. Gym and pool were impressive, although the pool was heaving with (I suspect) non-resident families on a couple of the days. So don't expect a quiet pool to yourself if you're here over the weekend.

We ate in the Bar & Grill and the food was very good, although the ambience was a bit clinical. In fact the whole hotel had a slightly clinical feel. Could be because it's all new. We also drank in the Bar which was great. They even have their own ale on tap served in foaming pewter tankards. Buffet breakfast was comprehensive and very good.

We stayed in a kingsize double room in the new annex of the goodwood park. on first glance it seemed fairly standard and boring. But it was actually very good. Very clean and wonderful quality. the bed and the sheets were heavenly. Also we had the best burger we've ever had in the restaurant at lunch! We were only there for the night for a wedding, wish we'd had longer and got to try out the pool. i would recommend this hotel to anyone. I think we paid about £90 for the night.

“Get yourself a character room before you book or look at rooms on arrival”

The Goodwood Park Hotel

Myself, my wife and our 3 motnh old stayed at the hotel for a one nights stay as we were visiting Chichester (lovely town). We called the hotel on the way down and askede the room rates on a late deal basis, all good rates come back. However, got to the hotel and I asked to see the stan double, delux and character room. Started off at the character room, basically a suite for 150 a night, with breakfast for us all. good room, molton brown products, two bath rooms and loveky view. Exec double, Ok, smaller, but nice and larger. Standard I was show, small, smelly and at the other side of the hotel, this was 90 pounds. I got the character room as it was a one nighter and fancied pushing the boat out. The hotel pool, gym and leisure complex was the best feature. 5*+, big pool, steam room, sauce, clean changing rooms. We decided to stay in the hotel for dinner and went to the sports bar, goodwood bar. Starters were just OK, chicken satay sticks were abit cold and reconstituted meat. the other, prawns over priced for what we got. Mains, Salmon was lovely and the burger was nice. Drinks are duble expensive, £7a glass of wine (large) and thats not the most expensive. You can go for the fine dinning restarant, but its not worth it for the money and its not a sulebrious dinning room.....Lovely nights sleep in the massive bed and breakfast was the best kept secret. All fresh, hot, and as much as you like. ranging from fruit, cooked meats, full fry up stuff, but all NOT runnign in fat n grease and SALMON if you want it for no extra......check out was at noon, so we stayed and went to the pool. Nice experience, good one night break, woudlnt eat again in the night there, go into town and for 150 a night with breakfast and the top top facilities worth every penny. But book a delux or character room.

“Very good.”

I have stayed in some truly exceptional hotels in my life - and this isn't one of them. It's just plain 'very good'.

The first time I looked at the hotel (a good 9 months before I stayed) it was a fairly shabby affair; and the rooms I was shown looked like any other long-in-the-tooth trying-to-be-posh-but-not-hitting-the-mark hotel room that can be found the length and breadth of Britain. And the staff were indifferent and pretty unhelpful.

I am pleased to report that since it has been taken over, things are looking up. The staff were delightful without exception and very helpful. The rooms were better (but still need redecorating in a more modern style) and the beds had obviously had a big overhaul and were terrfically comfortable.

The food was also excellent and there is a wonderful spa and swimming pool area.

However, there is just something about the place that doesn't quite work for me. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the decor. Maybe it's the hopelessly muddled layout. Maybe it's the lack of air conditioning. I don't know but nice as it was I wouldn't make a huge effort to stay there again.

“Lovely Comfortable Stay”

The Goodwood Park Hotel

19 Sep 2007

We decided to have a 2 night break a dinner B&B package and choose the Goodwood Hotel. I enjoyed my nights sleep so much as we had such a comfortable bed, it was amazing and I do not sleep very well in Hotel beds! We booked a standard room which was lovely could be a little more spacious but you don't grumble as you have paid for a standard. This room was a smoking room which was fab a rare thing these days! The food in the dining room was next to none and the service was first class. The spa facilities are lovely but can get a bit crowded as they seem to have the public in the gym etc
There was 2 weddings on the Sat at the Hotel which you would hardly notice, there was no noise or disruptions. The breakfast was lovely ( pre cooked) plenty of staff on hand if you need anything and always willing to help.
I would definately go back to this Hotel and would highly recommend a stay here.
