As Americans, we were looking for a British manor style hotel in the country with the comforts of a Marriott. We definitely found this at Goodwood. Located on a very small unmarked road, you might drive past it were it not for the Marriott sign. All personnel were very friendly saying hello walking past you in the hallways. A couple of staff members at the desk seemed to have been there only a short time and had no knowledge of the area(i.e., houses to visit). We had dinner in the formal restaurant(Richmond Room). The service and food were excellent. Had tea, drinks and a cheese platter in the bar/casual restaurant. Service and food were good.
The room was very comfortable with marble bathroom floors, mini-bar, TV, ironing board, hairdrdyer, all the makings for tea, cookies given everyday, etc. Thankfully, there is no airconditionning. We could actually open the window with a view of grass and greenery.
We stayed for one week, taking day trips between Salisbury and Brighton. We were there strictly for pleasure, to get to know that part of England.
