My wife and I have stayed many times in Marriott hotels. We love the Royal in Bristol, enjoy the views and service of Marriott, Swansea and had the holiday of a lifetime this April in Marriott Phuket. Goodwood Park is popular and sited within a golf club and idyllic countryside. However there seems to be an element of arrogance surrounding the treatment of guests that we have not encountered at other Marriotts. For example, despite complaining about the cost of the room for such an uncomfortable night's sleep, management response was simply to emphasize the fact they had installed tiny electric fans for their guests!
Indeed the introduction to our basic box room was a first in terms of a management 'spin' on what was quitessentially a room well below the usual Marriott par. On our arrival, room 151 was entirely blacked out, with aforementioned solitary fan whirring ineffectively on the desk. A management note at the side of the fan explained the company wisdom of closed curtains and cheap 7 inch 2 speed electric fans but made no apologies for the severe overpricing and discomfort of their guests. Reference was made to Americans however who were deemed to have made a lot of 'fuss' this summer for the lack of a/c and indeed what should be an essential in any good hotel. Marriott can afford and obviosly see the necessity for air con in their sports bar area, why not in the guest rooms too?
I was totally on the side of the derided
Americans!

Breakfast: Functional, adequate. No linen table cloths or napkins. Not a patch on the Royal Bristol.

Decor: Usual tasteless Marriott clashings of too many patterns and colours that all needed consigning to a 1970s stylistic dustbin. Boutique hotel not. Scream those riotous patterns Goodwood boys!

Lay out: Poorly laid out and signposted. A strange higgledy piggledy set up of long corridors and confusing directions .

Value for money: Below average outside of summer temperatures, a downright disgrace during a heatwave.

It was one of those hotel experiences where the charging really gets to you. My wife and I enjoy good hotels and are not afraid of high prices but if I can borrow one last heat reference, this hotel just did not cut the mustard. Wake up Marriott, air conditioning is now a feature of all major UK retailers. As a respected and successful American hotelier you should be leading the field in guest comfort, not capitalising and penny pinching on the magnificent setting and popularity of this hotel in this exquisite part of England.

Our family of four enjoyed this hotel more than any other on our vacation. Our two rooms were well-furnished and the beds were extremely comfortable. Room service was prompt and the food was good. Breakfast buffet had a very good assortment of fruit, cereals, breads, and hot and cold items. The public areas were tastefully decorated and the pool was large and clean. The parking lot was large - a welcome surprise after a week of driving in England! We had only booked 2 nights here, and wished we could have stayed longer. There was much to do in the vicinity - the Chichester festival theatre, day trips to Portsmouth and Arundel castle, the Isle of Wight, etc. The surrounding countryside was very pretty.

As Americans, we were looking for a British manor style hotel in the country with the comforts of a Marriott. We definitely found this at Goodwood. Located on a very small unmarked road, you might drive past it were it not for the Marriott sign. All personnel were very friendly saying hello walking past you in the hallways. A couple of staff members at the desk seemed to have been there only a short time and had no knowledge of the area(i.e., houses to visit).We had dinner in the formal restaurant(Richmond Room). The service and food were excellent. Had tea, drinks and a cheese platter in the bar/casual restaurant. Service and food were good.

The room was very comfortable with marble bathroom floors, mini-bar, TV, ironing board, hairdrdyer, all the makings for tea, cookies given everyday, etc. Thankfully, there is no airconditionning. We could actually open the window with a view of grass and greenery.

We stayed for one week, taking day trips between Salisbury and Brighton. We were there strictly for pleasure, to get to know that part of England.

Stayed at this hotel last year. The room was adequate but nothing special. However, this place has very poor noise insulation. At 12am the TV from next door was very noisy. I had to complain and eventually this was resolved after 15mins. At 3am there was banging noise from next door as the couple were in a big argument next door. The man was swearing at the top of his voice to his wife and there were banging noise as well (sounds like someone kicking furniture around). This lasted around an hour and I was too tired to complain (not surprising since i was woken up at 12am). Complained to manager following morning, did not bother to do anything about it. Written to the hotel as well but was ignored. I dont need to describe the rest of the service at the hotel.

My advice is to avoid this hotel at all costs.
