“Calm and relaxing breakfast hotel in selsey”

St. Andrews Lodge Hotel

31 Mar 2008

We had looked for a seaside hotel and couldn't get lodging. So we booked 2 rooms - 1/twin, 1/frenchbed - with a shared bathroom at the Lodge. Everything was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The rooms are quite small and the bathroom IS small, but in fair weather you have all the luxury of a beautifully tended garden and your own set of garden chairs and table. The lounge was big - we did not use it, because we were out most of the time and my grandson had to go to bed in the evening. And there is a bar for a late-night drink. We had a refrigerator and coffee-making utensils.

The breakfast was excellent. I have stayed in many posh hotels but what richard and ann cooked was as good as any of them in quality (maybe not variety - but who needs more than an extended full English breakfast). The most wonderful poached eggs and real coffee in a Bodum coffee maker - as much as we liked.

Selsey itself is just beautiful so is the whole peninsula. Birdwatchers can get their full share.

The best meal we had was at The Seal in Selsey. Their toasted sandwhich is something to write home about.

We had a very good stay. I'm sure we will come again and we will recommend it to all our American friends - they would love the warm welcome.

“Wonderful Stay”

St. Andrews Lodge Hotel

16 Aug 2007

I had a wonderful stay, the owners were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure that we had everything we needed. The room was very clean the hotel has a lovely family feel to it.
Having read a review suggesting the hotel was overpriced, I must disagree, the standard is above average for the price and location.
The garden is lovely, the breakfast was fantastic and rooms are to a very good standard.

“Not living up to expectations”

St. Andrews Lodge Hotel

30 Jul 2007

The room we had was a good size in the extension (not the main house) but it is a shame that some of the space was not apportioned to the bathroom which was disappointingly narrow. The shower was very difficult to control the correct temperature with only a small move making it hot or cold. The toilet seat was worn and the cupboard would not close. A double room we were shown in the main house was quite small. The garden is very nice and the breakfast was excellent. We would place it at the lower end of 4 diamonds.

“Convenient to Goodwood”

St. Andrews Lodge Hotel

28 Jun 2007

I don't know what quantifies the difference between a guest house and a hotel, probably the number of rooms, if that is the case then this place is a hotel, if a mini bar in the corner of public area means that it's a hotel, then it qualifies also.
To me it is a large private house hidden from the main road by a large hedge.
It is a good base for events such as Goodwood, it has private parking and the rooms are comfortable. The breakfast is very good, but if anyone arrives there and expects to get an evening meal then they should know that there is no facility for such on the premisis. I can however recommend a good pub a few miles north of there on the main road,"The Anchor" where they serve excellent food.
We stayed there while attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the owner while he made every effort to cater for us with regards to serving breakfast early also knew the Goodwood event was taking place and adjusted his prices upwards accordingly.
The premisis is very clean and the owner is friendly. The rooms are average size and while an effort is made to make you feel at home some of the small touches tend to add to the clutter in the room. There is a large garden at the rear of the building with seating which could be very nice of a summers evening to rest and chat about the day.
But when we booked a hotel we expected more for the £105.00 per night for a double room we were quoted.
We would stay there again but only if we failed in our efforts to gain accomidation elsewhere. From our experience the premisis is basically overpriced, tolerable at the lower normal prices.

    • Liked — Its location for the event we were attending.
    • Disliked — The overpriced rate charge and the overwhelming smell of pot pourri in the room.
