This is a great little upmarket inn to base yourself if your want to enjoy the country pubs of west sussex, wander the villages such as Petworth and take a walk along the south downs way. Chilgrove is bang on the south downs way and lovely walks around harting downs are just 10 min drive away, or you can walking straight from outside the inn. The food was excellent and the wine list is apparently rather good! You can choose to dine in the pub style area or formal dinning area and the service was very good. Charles the owner was very welcoming and helped with our walking itineries for the day and seemed to know all the locals at dinner. The rooms are nice if a little overpriced, but the general atmosphere and hamper breakfasts to your room made it well worth it. I thoroughly recommend this place for a lovely weekend get-away.
