“Fabulous food, wonderful cottages for a relaxing stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2010

We stayed in the small but perfectly formed Flint Cottage at the Royal Oak for a couple of nights recently and were very impressed by how well the Royal Oak is run. Friendly, welcoming and professional staff, beautiful decor in rooms and public areas, and lovely restaurant. We'll definitely be coming back here. Perfect for a countryside break, but very well located for things to do. Goodwood and Chichester particularly close.

“A delight for a returning native to know that quintessential English country fare is alive and well.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2010

I had lunch at the Royal Oak last week and thoroughly enjoyed myself. This atmospheric village pub strikes immediately with its warmth and charm. The staff are friendly but not over familiar, which I like.
We had an excellent menu to chose from and I was tempted by almost all the dishes. In the end I was very pleased with my choice of Risotto with Jerusalem Artichokes where the creamy rice texture was beautifully complimented by the slight crunch of the artichokes. As an Englishwoman living abroad, it was lovely to be able to have roast partridge with a nice gamey taste to it for my main course . There was no room left for pud!
All in all a very pleasant experience.

Fabulous food in a lovely, ancient pub setting made all the more enjoyable by Marco's beguiling Italian welcome and great service.

Beautiful surroundings in East Lavant make this a lovely place to dine al fresco when the weather is good.

Makes for an enjoyable and memorable evening, whether dining as a couple or with friends.

Highly recommended.

“Great food, excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2010

This restaurant is a little gem. A country pub serving real ale straight from the barrel. The menu offers something different. On the night I went there was pheasant soup on the specials and for a main course I went for a superb partridge dish. I can't wait to return.

“Excellent restaurant near Goodwood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

We had heard good things about this restaurant and decided to try it after playing golf at Goodwood. The greeting was excellent, our table was ready but they were happy for us to have a drink at the bar. It happened to be a race day at Goodwood, but although they were busy, the staff always had time for us. All our requests for flexibility on the menu were answered by the polite young lady taking our order. All the staff were polite, friendly and knowledgable. We had a variety of of main courses all of which were declared excellent. The menu is a bit expensive for a country pub/restaurant but the quality matched the prices. We ordered a second bottle of Chablis, our waitress returned with 'Premier Cru' as they did not have any more cold bottles of our first choice - and we could have it for the same price - whopeee! Our only disappointment was that several of us fancied cheese for desert and the desert menu warns you to order cheese at the same time as your main course so it can be taken out of the fridge. We hadn't and didn't fancy fridge cold cheese, so we gave it a miss.
Overall a really good experience and we will be going back.
