Right..........reading some of the reviews on here would make you run for the hills and not bother giving the Harewood Arms a second thought.......... THINK AGAIN
Saturday 5th November 2011 was the evening of our wedding celebration party at Harewood House. We had booked the venue over 18 months ago and had visited Harewood Arms along with other hotels in the area in preparation for accommodating up to 30 guests on what was the UK celebration of our overseas marriage.
When we arrived at the Harewood Arms (many months ago whilst still identifying possible hotels), we were greeted by a friendly barman who listened to our requirements and promptly got the manager involved to ensure all questions could be answered. A lengthy conversation was had, and a suitable rate agreed for bulk bookings. Details were left and away we went.
In the interim period between our first visit and actually staying at the hotel, my fiancee and parents visited one evening to grab a bite to eat in the pub. The management had changed, and a few little glitches were evident (such as diary entries not being complete for the nights we required), however this was soon ironed out and a solid booking entered.
Approximately 1 week prior to the event, my parents and I visited the Harewood Arms again in order to clarify final numbers and ensure everything was in place for a smooth evenings stay. The management had changed again, this time to Sue and Danny. Well................ they couldn't do enough to accommodate our requirements. Sue took us around the hotel and helped us to pick rooms for our guests, and showed us which room would be for my wife and I (which was given to us free of charge due to the number of rooms we were booking). We ate in the pub and left feeling very confident that there would be no problems what-so-ever. We were told we could come and check in early if needed in order to prepare for the wedding party at Harewood House, and that check out would be at 12 noon on Sunday 6th.
The weekend finally arrived, and as promised by Sue and Danny, check in was open early for us. We were shown to our rooms which were very clean and airy, with tea making facilities and nice clean en-suite bathrooms. The rooms were pleasantly warm on a late autumn morning, but had functioning windows should we have needed them. OK so there were no TVs, but that it's a bad thing at all given the number of repeats and "fly on the wall documentaries" that furnish all 950 channels !!
Off we went to Harewood House for the party (and what a fab night that was). We returned to the hotel to comfy beds, warm and powerful showers and a good nights sleep. The Harewood Arms is located on a relatively busy route in and out of Leeds, however the traffic noise was bearable, and with both sets of windows closed, was hardly noticeable.
Breakfast was served promptly on our arrival into the restaurant, considering we were there with at least another 25 people all from our party, and all wanting to eat at approximately the same time! The selection was adequate and all very good, especially the full English breakfast. The serving staff were all very pleasant and courteous.
Checkout time was nice and late, allowing us plenty of time to gather the dress bags, shoe boxes, gifts, suits (you name it; it was there).
All in all, we had a fantastic weekend, made that much simpler by having genuinely pleasant and courteous staff and management at the Harewood Arms. No request was too much for them (not that we are a difficult bunch), and from the comments of our guests, not one of the 15 rooms occupants had any complaints of concerns from their stay.
I started by commenting on previous residents reviews on TripAdvisor, and can only say one thing............Management HAS changed, give it a go. Sue and Danny were truely magnificent, and helped everyone present to enjoy themselves and enter into the spirit of the event at which we were gathered for. My Wife and I would like to extend our thanks to the management and staff at Harewood Arms and would most definately recommend it. P.S. The Sunday lunch is to die for also !!
Thanks Guys !!
Rooms in the main building are the most recently rennovated, however all are to a good standard.
