“Avoid in hot weather”

Bewley's Hotel Leeds

5 Jun 2008

My wife & I stayed here for two nights whilst I was on business.

The hotel is modern and contemporary in style and is in walking distance of the station. The room was pleasantly large, with a double bed, a single bed and a sofa. Both the room itself and the bathroom were very modern. Of course, someone has to draw the short straw, and our room looked out onto the loading bay/staff smoking area/bins, but there you go.
Breakfast is a self-service affair, which is appropriate. We couldn’t fault the breakfast, the coffee comes out of a machine, but is nevertheless far better than average.

The room itself seemed well soundproofed and the pillows were nice.

Unfortunately, it was quite muggy, and there was no air conditioning. The windows only open an inch, presumably thanks to Health and Safety, and in any case, it is very noisy being on what is essentially the ring road. Reception were regrettably unable to find a fan.

“Unwelcoming reception staff”

Bewley's Hotel Leeds

Nice modern hotel, within easy access from M62/M621. There is an underground car park beneath the hotel. Office and apartment blocks surround the hotel; there are no shops, pubs or restaurants in the immediate area, the hotel is approximately 1mile from Leeds railway station.

The reception staff must be the most unwelcoming unfriendly group I have ever encountered.

The rooms are clean but even more impersonal than most modern chains, but for the price are more than adequate.

My wife had left the hotel for a short walk, but forgot her swipe key. She requested a new key from reception to pass the ground floor security door. She felt she was dealt with in an almost hostile and very unprofessional manner, before a new key was issued. We all know security is paramount these days, however there is a correct and professional way of doing things.

The breakfast quality and choice is very good, however the buffet area is reminiscent of a school cafeteria. The restaurant area is nicely decorated with an open fire feature in the middle.

Unfortunately when checking out I had to once again encounter the dreaded reception staff, even after a nights sleep the three receptionists still looked unwelcoming and unfriendly.

The staff encounters will reduce the *star rating from 4 down to 2.

Taking the relevantly cheap prices, easy access and car park I may stay in this hotel again.

“Northern quality at northern prices”

Bewley's Hotel Leeds

25 Mar 2008

Located within fairly easy walking distance from the rail station, this hotel was my home-from-home during a five-day stay.

The abundance of free Internet access helped my work massively, as did the well-stocked breakfast buffet. Staff were helpful, professional and welcoming. Extending my stay for an extra day wasn't a problem, and the price - less than £75/night - I didn't have second thoughts.

The only downside was my celebratory steak from the Room Service menu arrived rather thinner and drier than anticipated, although there was opportunity for it to have been much, much worse.

“Short Family Break”

An excellent location for a short family break. Boys at football and museums, girls shopped till we dropped. Hotel family room well appointed and very clean.Same for public areas. Excellent choice at breakfast, buffet style and restraunt in evening wsa fine. Internet access, so great for the teenagers. Private car parking.

Only quibble is reception staff looked a bit 'glum' but were helpful once approached, Didn't put us off though, we'd happily go back, especially if prices stay as fair as they are.
