“OK, but a little disappointed”

Our stay at Spire House was OK. The room was clean, the breakfast was quite good and the owners were friendly and professional. In our own particular situation and context, though, it was a bit less than ideal for a few reasons: (1) We were hoping to be able to park our car at the bed and breakfast so that we could walk to the cathedral during the day the next day. The website gives the impression that parking is available at the bed and breakfast by saying "There is plenty of parking available". What this means is that there is some limited parking available on the busy streets outside the b&b, but it is not very convenient, and means moving one's car around. An email from the owner also mentioned that parking was included in the price, which rather gives the impression that they have their own parking facilities. I suppose we were unlucky because it was rainy and very cold, and we were tired and it was late, and we had loads of luggage, so it was a bit tough dragging it all across the road, and then up the road. My suggestion would be that the website adds a note to explain that there is no parking available at the b&b, but that there is some parking available across the road, and that restrictions apply. (2) The website gives the impression that the rooms are spacious, e.g. "Beautiful soft furnishings and well proportioned rooms". Our room was very, very squashed. We did not have room for our luggage, and the beds were packed in tightly, e.g. so that you couldn't open the closet. (3) The website suggests that the triple room + extra bed, the option we went for, @ £100, is made up of a double + single + an extra bed. In fact, this room is four single beds. If we had known this, it would have influenced our decision as my wife and I prefer to sleep in a double bed.

I don't want to give the impression that we had a poor experience; I think that there are some things to be commended about this b&b. I understand too that others have had very good experiences here. However, I think that the website gives a few slightly misleading impressions, unintentionally I am sure, which might be worth adjusting, especially in relation to the parking issue and the expectations about room sizes.

I could not beleive this review as I remember these guests, they were going to a wedding and they said what a good time they had here. The family were cramped but the room is for 3 people not 4 I added an extra bed to be helpful as they had children, its not advertised anywhere for 4 persons. The single beds can be joined to make a Double if required. Parking is difficult in all cities and this family did have a huge amount of luggage to carry across the road. John and I have run a B&B for 11 years because we like having guests in our home, we want visitors to enjoy Spire House and Salisbury. Please do not tell us everything is great and then write about us later, we would rather know!

“reasonable, great location”

I would endorse previous comments about car parking. It was impossible and we weren't offered a permit either. We had to move the car twice before finally getting a place outside at about 9pm and had to move the car at 8am the next morning into the multi-story car park nearby. Apart from that the room was comfortable and clean, although we couldn't get either heater to work (gave up on that and went to bed instead), and at one stage the toilet refused to flush but we eventually got it to work again. Both happened late at night, so we couldn't report it. It really is a fantastic location, its just a shame about the inconvenience of the parking.

Oh dear sorry about the loo, we did get it fix the next day. Gosh we didnt do very well, I think as it was late the heating thats on a thermosate/timer may have gone off or was on low. I do wish you had said you had a problem, we love running a B&B mainly because we like people and want them to enjoy staying in our home. Parking is difficult in all UK cities and we really do our best to overcome problems here. Permits are given on the day that guest arrive and additional ones are available to those staying more than one night. On the day of depature we ask visitor to park a few minutes away in the same street.

My husband and I stayed at the Spire House from 26/05/07 to 28/05/07, as we were going to a christening at a church a few doors down on the Sunday. As the price wasn't very expensive (£70 per room per nigh) I wasn't really expecting more than a basic clean room and some breakfast to set us up for the day, but I have to say we got a whole lot more!!! Right from when we arrived we were made to feel at home, and what a home!!! We were shown to our room on the 1st floor, and when Lois opened the door I was stunned!! The room was a very large size with 4 poster bed, and decorated extremely tastefully. The original features have been kept, including the windows, but they have also put in double glazing behind the widows so any noise from the road below is pretty much taken away.
Breakfast was also lovely. Everything was fresh and hot, and there was plenty of it.
I honestly can’t recommend this B&B enough, so if you are have the chance to go to Salisbury (which is itself beautiful), a stay at the Spire House is a must!!!

Our stay at Spire House was our first at a B&B, and it exceeded our expectations. We knew we would enjoy the place even before we left home. It was a delight communicating with Lois by email when we made our reservation. Once we arrived we had our pick of rooms and chose the second floor room facing the cathedral. As it was not yet ready, Lois kept our bags for us while we took her advice and had lunch at the cathedral. She was also extremely helpful assiting us with our transportation needs. First she told us where we could hire bicycles for our intended trip to Stonehenge. Then after a long day out and a lovely meal at another restaurant of her suggestion, we changed our minds about cycling to Stonehenge, and she arranged a taxi for us instead. A fine concierge.
The room itself was perfect. It was quite comfortable for the two of us. It was very relaxing to sit in the bay window and enjoy the view of the cathedral and the town. Breakfast was generous and hot off the stove, served by an apron-clad Lois in the lovely dining room. As it was very early we unfortunately did not have the pleasure of chatting with the other guests.
We were only there for one night, unfortunately, but we enjoyed it immensely. We only hope the next time our travels take us to Salisbury that we will be able to stay longer, at Spire House of course
One other note. I left my jacket in the closet and Lois was kind enough to mail it to me in Canada.

My husband and I returned to the United States two days ago having spent a little more than two weeks in the UK. The highlight of our holiday was our time at Spire House. Since neither my husband nor myself would normally seek out a "B & B",we were overjoyed to discover this" jewel" of Salisbury. Lois and John Faulkner welcomed us as if we were returning friends and then proceeded to show us to our room which was stunning. We applaud our hosts for all they did before we arrived and while we were there. They overlooked no aspect of what it takes to make a stay at their elegantly appointed "B & B" a delight.
