We stayed at The Spire B&B in June for 2 nights. We booked three rooms (part of family wedding holiday) and found them to be clean and comfortable. Unfortunatly Lois was away on our day of arrival, but her husband did his best to make us feel at home. Car parking is a bit of a problem as you have to keep moving it depending on the time of day that your permit is valid.
Breakfast was fresh and there was lots of healthy choices. Lois was home and served it up with cheer. The location was good. There was some construction going on in the back area....not really sure were it was coming from, but it was a bit noisy during the afternoon while we were resting. That aside, we had a good overall experience.

I was really surprised when I read some of the comments in this review. I realise that the majority was pretty positive but I thought one or two points were a little misleading.
I do remember this party, as they were taking part in a wedding celebration at Stonehenge during the Summer Solstice.
I always give my visitors parking permits, that allow parking outside my B&B and the only time guests are required to move their vehicle is on the day of departure. This is when we ask visitors to move their car further along the street, where they can park for free.If these particular guests misunderstood this request, we are really sorry.
We were having some work done in the garden during this parties stay, our builder was here from 9.30am until 2.00pm. The wedding party had been out all the night at Stonehenge and consequently and understandably spent much of the day in bed recovering.
I know it looks as if I am rather over-reacting to what was a positive review, but I would hate prospective guests to imagine that they have to move their cars continually, along with the misapprehension that the house can become noisy.

In April 2006 we stayed in Salisbury at the Spire House 81 Exeter Street. Our room had a wonderful view of the spire of Salisbury cathedral and an excellent location for walking to town or the cathedral and close. Our hostess Lois served breakfast at a common table which led to some fun conversations with fellow guests. The room was comfortable and had a private bath and tea and coffee service.
We reached Salisbury by train on a days out of London Pass and were able to get around fine on foot until we picked up our rental car. There was free parking with the B&B's permit on the street. We took a train trip to Winchester and used our car to visit Stonehenge, Avebury and Silbury Hill. While Winchester has more shops and restaurants, Salisbury had sufficient facilities and a good location for lauching our trip to the west of England while avoiding city driving.

My partner and I have just returned from a two night stay at this lovely B+B. It was our first time in Salisbury, and wanted to stay somewhere central within walking distance to the town amenities.

The Spire House B+B (dating from around 1795), is located a stones throw from the amazing Cathedral, (and if you are lucky enough to have the front facing double room like we were, you get a view of the Cathedrals impressive spire). Its essentially a terraced-house, but if it looks rather unexciting from the front, once inside you will be pleasantly surprised.

We had a lovely double room, facing the front of the house. Although this faced a rather busy main road, traffic noise was not a problem as the owners have tastefully secondary glazed the sash windows. The windows do open, so they won't stop you getting a bit of fresh air! We also had a lovely four-poster bed, which was both comfortable and impressive to look at. The room was spotlessly clean, and the towels/linen was changed everyday. Our room even had what appeared to be an original marble fireplace! (although a tv was placed in front of this, but I guess some people still want to watch television when they are away!). I am fortunate enough to have stayed in quite a few hotels, and this ranks as one of the best. I have stayed in so-called 4 star hotels that could learn a few things from Spire House!

What made our stay all the more enjoyable was the welcome and hospitility granted by the owner, Lois. She greeted us personally, and treated us like true guests. It seemed that she genuinely cared about making our stay enjoyable, and she certainly made us feel at home.
We loved Salisbury, and would hope to come back again soon. I hope that we will be able to stay again at the Spire, as any other hotel would have a lot to live up to!

What a lovely review.
I just thought I would say they were absolutely right about the TV spoiling the view of the fireplace. So I have moved the television and it now looks much better. TV fans do not fear we have replaced the old model with a flat screen version.

Spire House is what I love to consider "Home": Lois and John are my new parents from abroad and the hotel is really friendly and warm. I (Bob) and Cristina have never experienced such incredible service before. Everything was so incredible that it was hard to drag ourselves away from the hotel, on the departure date. From that moment on I always find 4-5 days a year to leave Sardinia and meet my new beloved friends in Salisbury. It seems to live in a dream.... And they say that English people are not very friendly....

My husband, I, and our two teenage sons stayed at Spire House last week. What a wonderful time we had! We were not sure what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised by the size of our rooms and how clean they were. We had the third floor to ourselves since our sons had the other room on the floor which was even a little bigger than ours.
Mrs. Faulkner was very hospitable. She helped us with directions, train times and gave us suggestions on sites to see.
The breakfast was excellent. We started with cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit and orange juice. Mrs. Faulkner would then bring us tea and ask what we would like for breakfast. We chose the traditional English breakfast of egg, sausage, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and toast.
I highly recommend Spire House to anyone staying in the Salisbury area. It is an ideal location for exploring the city and a lovely place to relax.
