We recently returned from a trip to Salisbury and spent five nights at the Cathedral Cottage. We stayed in a twin bedroom (at the top of the house under the eaves), equipped with a newly done bathroom. The room was so gemuetlich (cosy) and charmed us with the sloping ceilings and the view to the tower of Salisbury Cathedral. We had absolutely everything we needed from coffee and tea facilities down to the shampoo and gels in the bathroom. The beds were excellent and we slept like labrador puppies!

Breakfast was out of this world! The choice of traditional English breakfast, cereals, fresh fruit and fresh croissants (beautifully set table and friendly service) was a great start to the day.

The hosts Fran and Reg were charming and always ready to help us without being pushy in any way. We were driven over to visit our friends by our hosts, which was incredibly kind and much appreciated.

Altogether we felt completely at home and look forward to coming to the Cathedral Cottage whenever wie are in the area!

We loved our time at Cathedral Cottage!

We rented a car at Heathrow, and since it was my husband's first time driving a car in England, we decided to use satellite navigation to be sure we got there safely. The cottage was exceptionally easy to find. There was parking right across the street. We happened to arrive on a Sunday so it was free, but Reg mentioned that on days that require a permit, they had a pass for us to use.

The cottage is kept immaculately. The sitting area is so inviting. The dining table where we had breakfast was well decorated. And of course, our room was kept up to the same standard. We had the double room. It was just the right size for us. We had been traveling in Italy and Germany the two weeks prior, so we were used to the European room sizes. It was so great to stay somewhere where the double bed wasn't actually two twins pushed together. We slept the best in that room compared to anywhere else on our trip.

The view from the room was great too. The Cathedral was so lovely. We walked there a couple times, and it is incredibly close by. We also loved walking around Salisbury, shopping, and going out to eat.

Fran makes an incredible, full English breakfast. The amount and quality of the food was again, way past our expectations. Our hosts were so sweet, and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed chatting with Reg and learning about the cottage's history.

We were there for only two nights, but we wished we could have stayed longer!

“A bit of heaven near Salisbury Cathedral”

Cathedral Cottage B & B

13 Apr 2008

I recently returned form a wonderful stay at Cathedral Cottage and can easily proclaim it as one of the best B&B's I've encountered. The location is a short block from St. Ann's Gate with easy access to Salisbury Cathedral and the Cathedral Close with its historic houses and museums. Certainly one of the best locations in Salisbury.

The B&B is an 18th century ,Grade II house which has been carefully restored, retaining its original character but providing all the modern convenices one hopes to find.I was allocated the double room and was pleasantly surprised at the comfy bed with duvet and plenty of pillows. The new bath and shower were marvelous, and the heated towel bar actually worked. There was a new a flat screen t.v., as well as a clock on the bedside table. If one thing stands out at Cathedral Cottage it's the attention to details. From the fresh flowers in the snug room and dining area, to the assortment of bath gels and perfectly prepared breakfasts, it's apparent that hosts Reg and Fran sincerely care about the comfort of their guests.

As for breakfast, who knew that three courses were de rigueur. There was an assortment of cereals, fresh raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and pineapple along with a choice of yogurts. This was followed by warm croissants, strawberry jam and marmalade. Then came a plate of sausage, bacon, egg, fresh mushrooms, tomato and beans. My friend and I had to downsize after the first day, and throughly enjoyed the poached eggs on toast as a substitute for the English plate. I promise that the breakfast at Cathedral Cottage is the best!

Reg and Fran are the most gracious and genuine hosts I've come across. After I returned home and realized I was missing a locket peice, I emailed them to see if it had turned up there. Reg even searched through the vacumn bag looking for it. It wasn't found ,but I know they made every possible effort. I really appreciate that. Simply put, they make you feel at home.

I highly recommend Cathedral Cottage and look forward to returning.

A friend and I stayed at Cathedral Cottage for a week at Easter and enjoyed it enormously. I had the single room on the top floor. It's a bit of a climb, but once you at the top and tucked in under the eaves, the room has a fairy tale quality with lovely appointments that include a view of the Cathedral spire, fresh white bedding, a tea tray, and a television. The sparking en-suite bath has new corner shower-with lots of hot water and a heated towel rack. There were lovely soaps and shampoo in the bath, and a hair dryer was available upon request.

The common room is nicely appointed with crisp ironed table linens, flowers, and candles on the table. Our hosts were happy to set the table for us one evening when we decided to raid Marks & Spencer's food section and have our dinner in. The breakfasts are beyond compare: fresh berries and other fruits, an array of cereals, hot croissants, and then a full English breakfast! The quality of the food was first rate, as was the presentation.

Occupying both rooms at the B&B was very nice, rather like having a home away from home. We especially appreciated our hosts leaving the light in the window each night, no matter how late we were out and about. The location on Exeter Street is very convenient. It is only a short walk to St. Ann's Gate into the Cathedral Close, which is most handy for anyone who likes to attend Evensong in the Cathedral and have a shortcut 'home' on a cold and wet night. The market square is just a few blocks further up Exeter St., and there is a nice pub down the block for a casual dinner, glass of wine on the way home, or a sticky toffee pudding before bedtime.

Fran and Reg could not have been more gracious, accommodating, and efficient hosts. They were friendly and helpful in so many ways, including getting a computer update on the problems at the newly opened terminal 5 at Heathrow, checking on local phone numbers, etc. I recommend the Cathedral Cottage to anyone staying in Salisbury.

“As it should be.”

Cathedral Cottage B & B

Probably the smallest B&B I have ever stayed in, only two rooms.

But everything was as it should be. Welcoming hosts, clean comfortable room, with en-suite and a breakfast that would be the envy of most hotels.

To top it all, we were able to have tea in bed in the morning, whilst looking out at the spire of Salisbury Cathedral. Truly an ideal location for seeing this beautiful city.

It deserves to be booked al through the year.
