If you wish to over-night in the environs of central Windsor or Eton it must be impossible to fare worse than to stay at The Christopher.
We booked this "boutique" hotel at short notice (because another establishment that we booked back in Oct 06 recently became a private residence and omitted to tell us). For this reason perhaps we weren't as diligent as normal.
The room we stayed in (No 23?) was described as a "superior double". I fail to comprehend in what sense this dingy, pokey room is "superior"; other than in terms of its tariff.
We have stayed in hotels all over the UK ,and on most continents. This was the only one that has moved me to rail against what is blatant over-selling. We have stayed in £75 rooms which have been far nicer, bigger and cleaner than this £175 room.
For this out-landish price we found:
- shabby decoration - discoloured paintwork (all ceilings need painting) and peeling wallpaper
- dusty surfaces and any number of cobwebs
- a leaking shower hose
- a very noisy pump for the intermittent hot water supply
- a stained tea saucer
- poor quality TV picture
- lumps in the mattress (we actually like a hard mattress, which this was, but not lumps)
That we were awoken by a hen party returning to the rooms below from a night out in Windsor at 3am was not that significant; albeit it didn't enhance my regard for the hotel.
If you're impressed by a television screen that welcomes you by name to your hotel and an air-conditioning unit which was left on with all the windows open then you may have a head start on us.
Affording £175 for a room is not the issue. I just expected the room to be commensurate with the price. At less than £100 I'd have still had all of the above criticisms but I'd not have bothered to waste my time complaining publicly like this.
In total fairness I ought to say that the modest dealings we had with the staff were fine.
However, in summary I would just urge you to book elsewhere.
P.S. Now that I have read other, unfavourable reviews I am astonished that the management don't read these too - and act upon them!

We would like to inform all previous and prospective guests that the Christopher was bought by new management on the 28th September 2007 and refurbishment has already begun. The outside is getting a complete facelift and the bar area is being completely overhauled along with the plumbing. A new kitchen will be installed within a month allowing a full menu to be available all day and evening. The concerns regarding some of the rooms have been noted and will be addressed as soon as posssible. The new management team would like to apolgise to previous visitors for any issues they encountered with the hotel and look forward to welcoming all future guests to the "new" Christopher.
