We stayed at this hotel in March 2006. We had a nice stay although our shower didn't work. We were asked to make sure we reminded them of this if we came again.

We stayed again in February. What a disaster! We arrived in the early hours and were woken at 5am by a vibrating radiator. This lasted for 45minutes. Then we were woken at half past seven. There is a large building site immediately adjacent to the hotel. Our room was in the courtyard so was a motel-type room leading onto the carpark. There were 5 bricklayers and their radio working within 3 metres of our door. They were so close that we spoke to them without having to raise our voices (once they'd turned the radio down). We had problems with the noisy radiators again the following night.

We were given a discount for the first night but told to let them know if we rebooked and they would arrange a better rate. Unfortunately, I tried to book again and have been told that we're going to have to live with the builders until next year and just quoted the internet price. On telling the manager (without shouting or swearing) that it was unaceptable not to inform guests of the building, either on the internet or on booking, she hung up on me.

Bad hotel.

We would like to inform all previous and prospective guests that the Christopher was bought by new management on the 28th September 2007 and refurbishment has already begun. The outside is getting a complete facelift and the bar area is being completely overhauled along with the plumbing. A new kitchen will be installed within a month allowing a full menu to be available all day and evening. The concerns regarding some of the rooms have been noted and will be addressed as soon as posssible. The new management team would like to apolgise to previous visitors for any issues they encountered with the hotel and look forward to welcoming all future guests to the "new" Christopher.

Good location, staff friendly and polite.

Rooms need refreshing, dirty paintwork, shower is not very good at all, more like a trickle. Large gaps around the door, which leads directly outside so there is a draught.

Seemed a little pricy for the what you get, but for one night it was just about OK>

“Refurbished and now much better”

As the previous review has said this was a very tired hotel. It is now owned by the same group that runs the Sir Christopher Wren House Hotel in Windsor and is much improved.

They market it as a boutique hotel which in my opinion is shorthand for brown wallpaper, flatscreen television and inflated prices. In this case you have the usual trendy decor and telly but although the rooms are small they are very clean and smart and the beds comfortable.

The staff are generally charming and helpful and the breakfast excellent. They don't do dinner but you can eat very well in the sister hotel, 100 yds over the bridge in Windor which also has a spa and gym. Additionally there are some excellent pubs and restaurants within walking distance in Eton and Windsor.

The location is excellent and provided you book with one of the internet hotel booking sites the rates can be very reasonable. It is a nice change from the boring Slough business hotels and would be great for a short break for tourists visiting Windsor and Eton. The rail links to London are excellent so could be a good base for going there too

Had no real issues with this hotel but, having stayed in a fair few, just came away feeling a bit irritated by this one. It has the potential to be a very pleasant little hotel - rooms are nicely decorated & well furnished and hotel location is good.
Disappointing that they don't provide room service on a Sunday or indeed any food in the hotel at all in our case.
Fortunately discovered fairly early on that in order to have any hot water for shower, bath etc. you needed to leave the tap running for approx 10-15 minutes - one to watch if you're in a hurry. The toilet didn't flush properly either & the shower head could have used a bit of limescale remover.
Also one to be aware of, especially if needing a speedy check out, is that they don't really like to have anyone on the reception. Took several calls before someone picked up when ringing down from the room on a Sunday afternoon and when checking out the next morning had to hang around and then go searching for someone. No apology offered when someone finally did turn up...in fact i think he barely managed two words...maybe we woke him up, eh.

We only ended up in The Christopher as the sister hotel over the bridge in Windsor (where we've stayed on a couple of previous occasions and loved) was full. We don't think we'd bother with this one again...which is annoying because it could be a goodun.

“Lovely location, close to Windsor and all it has to offer.”

Christopher Hotel

19 Feb 2006

I stayed here with my partner over a weekend. I have to say the staff were polite and friendly and the location of the hotel is great. There are lots of pubs and restaurants in close proximity and Windsor is within an easy five-minute walk. Our room had a fabulous shower and the bed was comfortable, even if the room was a bit on the small side and a tad over-priced. Our double room was situated in the Courtyard and we found noise from adjoining rooms and loud guests returning very early in the morning a bit of a problem, as our room had no sound-proofing. I know the hotel has been refurbished, so it might be worth paying the extra £30.00 or so for a refurbished room. The reason we booked this hotel was because we could take our dog, which was a real bonus.
We much preferred staying in Eton as we found Windsor to be busy and the awful shopping area surrounding the historic and imposing castle quite tacky.
