“Surprisingly good”

Mercure Castle Windsor

Stayed for 2 nights on 5 and 6 July for business and was truelly surprised by this hotel. Getting decent hotels in the UK is difficult at the best of times. This one however I need to give credit where credit is due.

Location: Slap bang in middle of Windsor high street, ideal touring the castle/river etc.

Rooms: Very good, clearly been refurbished recently, beds very comfortable. The twin room we had was a bit small as was the bathroom but it was very clean and modern. Nice touch was free ice being delivered when asked, no hassles and very prompt service.

Internet: Free use in the business cenrre, which was handy.

Food: I'm generally not a fan of hotel restaurants as they're overpriced and bland. However this one did surprise me it was really really good. Great choice, fantastic value and fantastically prepared and presented. I honestly couldn't fault it. The bread was great and that's usually a decent indication of the rest of the meal. Both the set and a la carte menus were good. We arrived about 8pm on a Friday night had a quick wander down Windsor high street and saw lots of restaurants but we returned to the hotel restaurant and we were really glad we did.

Breakfast was fine, very good selection.

Staff: All the staff were very very good, all very helpful and friendly.

Bar/lounge: Both seemed very nice, warm and welcoming.

Minor Negatives/Tips:

Car parking although it doesn't look it, there are plenty of hotel car parking spaces, although if there is an event on in the bangquet area I 'd suggest getting back to he hotel before 7pm to guarantee a space.

Some of the rooms are in an annexe, which is literally 5 feet from the main hotel and has a glass walkway if you need to use it, those with walking/mobility problems are best to double check with the hotel whether they are in the annexe.I'm sure there's probably a lift but worth double checking.

However these are very minor points compared to how good the hotel was. In addition it was very reasonably priced in fact for Windsor I would describe it as a bargain given the quality of our stay. Uk hotels are often very patchy in terms of standards and value, however this one surprisely surpased my expectations and that always makes a stay even better.

Final tip: I also had coffee & sandwiches at the Runneymede Hotel in Egham which I noticed had lots of tourists in it due to Heathrow being very close. I thought the food and service at the Runneymede hotel were poor compared to this Windsor hotel and both are only about 10-15 mins apart by car. Personally if I were visitng I'd rather stay in Windsor than the Runneymede which is overhyped and overpriced from what I experienced.

We stayed at the Mecure Castle Hotel for 2 nights in June in 2 rooms. I traveled with my parents-in-law and my family of 2 adults and 2 young kids. There was no doubt about the very excellent location of the hotel - being just a short walking distance away from Windsor Castle and the shopping district. It was just wonderful to be able to find quite a few souvenir shops nearby for last minute shopping!
The 2 classic rooms we had were very clean and tastefully furnish as of most 4 star hotels. It would be better if there were bigger rooms for families as our classic double room had just a nice fit for a baby cot and for our 4 yr old son to fit in snuggly with us on the double bed.
The front counter staffs were helpful in attending to my queries on our travel options to London. Professional and friendly. The main entrance to the hotel was not via the revolving door (struggled with our main luggage through it) but by the back, off the main street which most cab drivers may not be aware of.
Breakfast was very good with a counter full of choices. In all - a highly recommended hotel for its great location!

My husband and I stayed at the Mercure Castle Windsor one night when our cruise ended, prior to flying out of Heathrow the following day. We were greeted courteously at the desk and in short order off to our room.

Our room was very large, comfortable and quiet. Even the toiletries were unusually grand. The concierge and front desk are eager to help in every way with questions, dinner reservations, and obtaining a taxi.

We had breakfast the following day in the dining room. The buffet had a variety of the best selections I've ever seen at any hotel breakfast ever. The coffee was a bit off but this is not something that the British are known for, so we overlooked that. Best to have the tea.

This is a perfect spot for a good night's sleep in a beautiful location. Highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Mercure Castle hotel as we were attending the Royal Windsor horse show. The location is perfect as the show was a 5 minute walk. The hotel is also across the street from Windsor Castle. There are two train stations within a close walk and we were able to easily take day trips into London.

On arrival I was confused with finding the reception desk as the outer revolving door puts you into the dining area. I found the desk further in the back of the hotel. We came on an early flight from the US and we were happy that they had a room ready for us at 9am. This was a great relief as we were quite jet lagged.

I had requested a twin bedded room as I was traveling with my Mother. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The temperature was very easy to regulate. The only thing I missed was an in-room safe.

We found the staff to be very friendly and eager to please us which was nice. The buffet had a good assortment for us and the food was good.

Overall I was very happy with my stay here and would stay here again.

“a really enjoyable stay”

Mercure Castle Windsor

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights March 22/23rd with my youngest son and my parents. The purpose of our trip to Windsor was to visit Legoland but we decided to stay 2 nights at the Mercure Castle to make this more of a break.
I'd advise anyone to check prices on the hotel's own website before calling to make a reservation. Prices and deals were somewhat lower on line and the hotel honoured those proces when I called to make the booking.
We had 2 rooms in the main ( older ) part of the hotel- a classic double and an upgraded double on the 3rd floor of the hotel.( they kindly upgraded us so we could both be on the same floor.). Both were of a good size, they were clean, decor was good, beds comfortable, and they were well equipped with toiletries, water, mini bar etc...
The heating controls are a little temperamental but within minutes of calling reception to say our room was a little cold, a member of staff had arrived to fiddle with the controls, and when that failed, he returned immediately with a radiator. Staff throughout our stay were in the main friendly, attentive and efficient.
On our first night there was a wedding party in the hotel but the banqueting suite is siuated so that you can't hear party noise in other parts of the hotel.
Our welcome from the parking attendant and from staff on the front desk was friendly and well handled. We were early so we left our luggaga and went out to explore Windsor. When we came back our rooms were ready and our luggage had already been placed in them for us.
The hotel is perfectly placed - you don't have to move far to watch the changing of the Guard or to find some rather nice shops and restaurants.
The hotel lounge and bar are relaxed with a warm and cosy atmosphere - it's easy to while away time there drinking some very nice hot chocolate and/or snacking and of course people watching.
Sadly we didn't try the cream teas but after seeing them emerge, piled high with sandwiches, cakes and scones, we wished we had.
The hotel restaurant is fine - the food is not fantastic but it's not bad and the prices are very reasonable. The strange thing was on our first night the waiter ( or maitre d' ) who showed us to the table gave my 7 year old son the same menu as the rest of us. Ollie couldn't find anything on it he fancied and so when we ordered he told the waiter he would just have some bread. It was only some time later, when the bread hadn't proved sufficient, that we asked a waitress if he could perhaps have something from the bar menu. She immediately offered us a childrens menu and Ollie ended up blatedly with some very tasty fish and chip followed by an ice cream and marshmallow sundae. I've no idea why this wasn't offered to us in the first place. Anyway we knew better on our second night and now you will know too - there is a children's menu with some very good options on it.
To sum up - the hotel is in a great location, staff and mostly helpful and efficient and you won;t regret a stay here.
