The hotel is dirty, and rundown (old England is one thing but this was a pit). The service was slow if it happend at all, and the staff seemed to be bored. The hot water (like the staff) did not work.

The only thing that was forthcomming were excuses.

“Noisy Stay”

Sir Christopher Wren's House

We stayed here for a romantic weekend in April and booked an executive room. The room was facing the main road and was located above the kitchen (strong smell of cooking), this resulted in two sleepless nights in what was supposed to be a relaxing break. Would not class these rooms as executive and I guess you are just paying for the location. I mentioned the noise to reception and was told "oh yes I have stayed in that room and could not sleep all night because of the noise - it might be better on Sunday" not an ideal response!

“Perfect Weekend Break”

Sir Christopher Wren's House

21 Apr 2008

The Hotel rooms are split over five different buildings, which we were surprised about. Our room was away from the main building & situated over a newsagents. We were a little concerned about the location, but was pleasantly surprised once we were in our suite. Although it is not 4* as advertised on Lastminute.com, it was very clean & spacious. The bathroom was modern with a VERY powerful shower that left me with a sore head!!

The hotel car park needs to be booked in advanced otherwise you will find yourself in the train station carpark. This isn't very far away, but far enough if you're carrying bags through the rain! We also had to get up early to buy a ticket for the following day's stay. (Parking was £4 a day Sat & Sun).

We didn't eat in the hotel as the central location meant we were spoilt for choice for places to eat (alot cheaper than the hotel!). There is room service (limited & costly) even though you are away from the main building, but we didn't use it other than a morning paper.

All in all, we had a fantastic weekend & would love to return (& would request the same suite - Room 107).

“Avoid at any cost !”

Sir Christopher Wren's House

26 Feb 2008

We chose to spend a night at the Christopher Wren House early last December, my wife having enjoyed a short stay there a few years previously. This however was not a pleasant experience.

Upon arrival early evening, we found that the promised "immediately adjacent parking" was infact a paying British Rail car park some distance from the hotel. As there was no possibility of even unloading outside the hotel, and no offer of help, this neccessitated a walk of around a mile with all our luggage in heavy rain.

Our room was cramped, grubby, extremely poorly laid out and equipped. What furniture there was was old and shabby , particularly the wardrobe which partially collapsed each time the door was opened. There was no mirror, no coffee table, nowhere to put cases, no drawers for clothes, and nowhere to hang any full length clothes or coats.

The bathroom was laid out so that despite two basins only one person could use them at any one time. There was nowhere to put toiletries, etc. other than on the floor. The drains were slow and noisy, the toilet unpleasant and the shower very old and grubby.

On this particularly cold night, after returning from dinner elsewhere, (we did not fancy our chances with the hotel kitchen), we discovered that the heating did not work. We had already been told that there was no other room available so we were obliged to make the best of it. We then found that the double glazing had apparently been removed allowing entry for a bitter wind and considerable noise from the street. There turned out to be only one thin, shabby, worn and frayed blanket on the bed plus a particularly unpleasant rubberised undersheet and rock hard pillows. Two more blankets were provided which were hardly in any better condition.

Reception were unable to be of any help with my complaints and simply refered me to the manager who, for the duration of our stay, could not be found. In fact it took two copies of my letter of complaint and four telephone calls before I finally got a rather condescending and rude response some two months later. Our brief and unpleasant stay was not inexpensive. However, even had it been free, we would never return.

The place is ideally located nearby the river, about 200 yds from Eton. The hotel has various types of rooms, some of them being located outside of the main building. Therefore, it's quite difficult to put a general comment about the hotel comfort, as every room has its own style and size.
