I really can't understand the wide range of reviews for this place; sadly, it is the 5-star reviews that leave me most confused. I wonder if there are 2 "Bowers Hill Farms" run by Sarah and Martin...
Upon our arrival, we were "greeted" by Martin, who did not say "hello", smile, or show any interest in the fact that we were there; in fact, he appeared quite putout by our arrival. With as few words as possible, he showed us to our room, said there was paperwork to fill out, and that was about it. He didn't even bother to show us where breakfast would be served the next morning (which left us and our baby standing about for 15 minutes in the morning wondering where we should be), or which--if any--rooms were for public gathering. Now, I'm used to stoic people, but this wasn't stoic: it was grumpy bordering on down-right rude.
We were left feeling very unwelcome and pretty sure we made a bad choice. Sometime during breakfast the first morning, Sarah appeared; she was warm and friendly, though perhaps not quite enough to counter our initial impressions. She remained quite pleasant throughout our stay and kept us from really regretting our choice.
The house itself was nice, the room comfortable (although there was a sign in the bathroom asking us to keep the light out at night to prevent "hundreds of bugs" from coming in!) Breakfast was average. The location is pretty good for seeing the Costwolds. On the plus side, Martin did recommend a lovely walk nearby for us, and Sarah provided helpful directions for finding it.
Overall, the B&B served our needs, but nothing more. Unlike the other 3 places we stayed on our trip, we can not recommend Bower's Hill Farm.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to review Bowers Hill Farm and I am so very sorry that your stay with us was not of the high standard you experienced in the other B&Bs you stayed at. I am quite surprised to read your review really as I thought you were a delightful family and your little boy Siris was an absolute joy - did you not remember the fun he had with the dogs and how we all enjoyed teaching him the 'dog' word and hearing his squeals of delight when he saw them. All I can say really is that I am sorry I was not here to greet you personally as I was taking Bertie back to school that evening and sorry you didn't have a warm welcome from the grumpy farmer! Normally I am quite sensitive to people's issues but I really didn't pick up on yours and only wish that you had perhaps mentioned some of this and we could have made sure that your experience of Bowers HIll Farm B&B had been nothing but positive.
