We stayed at The Pear Tree on a Groupon deal Sat 10th March for one night. We found the area lovely and relaxing. The receptionist on arrival was friendly and courteous, room basic but perfectly adequate for a 3 star hotel. Toiletries were provided along with ample amount of towels. Bed linen clean, bed itself was very firm with extra pillows in an ottoman, plenty of hangers in wardrobe.
Information guide in room provided all details required with regard to immediate area.
Outside there is a large lake surrounded by fields which were good for walking. Dont forget your wellies or sturdy footwear!! After we had finished our walk around we went into the bar area at the front. You need to present confirmation of room slip if putting drinks etc on main bill. Bar served a good variety of beers etc and bar snacks. Bar staff were all friendly and helpful.
In the evening we went to the restaurant for dinner, we had a choice of eating in the conservatory (near the bar area) or in the restaurant side. We chose the restaurant side. As we were on a groupon deal we had a specific menu to choose from. The choice consisted of general bar meals - garlic breaded mushrooms, pate on ciabatta, vegetable soup, fish in batter, beefburger, vegetable carbonara, chicken in blue cheese sauce, creme brulee, eton mess, cheese & biscuits are what I can remember. The meals we had were cooked lovely, all the diners (there appeared to be a lot of groupon deal participants) all appeared to enjoy the food. I can understand the limited choice as we were on a 3 course 2 for 1 deal but I cannot comment on any other menu that was available to non groupon diners.
The general atmosphere was relaxed, we weren't hurried in any way. The staff serving were all courteous and helpful.
There were 3 functions on whilst we stayed which we were a little apprehensive of when we arrived, we wondered about the noise levels whilst in our room. We needed not have worried, we were in room 225 and heard nothing except one family chatting whilst getting into their cars and that was only as we had a window open.
The next morning we had a continental breakfast served in the restaurant along with a varied cooked to order menu, cooked foods on offer were full english, vegetarian full english, eggs benedict, smoked salmon and scrambled egg, poached haddock and poached egg, smoked kippers along with other options which I cant remember. The young lad serving us was again courteous and friendly. He enquired of everyone had they had a good nights sleep, were they enjoying themselves, did they have dinner in the restaurant the night before, had they enjoyed it, explained the choice of breakfast, beverages on offer etc and seemed genuinely interested in each and everyones well being and satisfaction of the hotel experience on offer. He was an excellent example of good customer service without being intrusive.
We would definately recommend this hotel. Its not a luxury hotel but its not advertised as one. It is a lovely place to stay in relaxing surroundings with good, basic food. We would stay again.
We stayed in room 225 and heard no noise from the 3 functions that were being held.
