Very clean and modern rooms in centre Abergavenny! Perfect!

Ty Llew Bed and Breakfast

This family-run B&B is in a residential area of Abergavenny less than 10 mins walk from centre and train station. Don't be confused by the Google map on this page as it seems to be wrong. It is on a Charles Church development, probably only a few years old, so it does not appear on satnav or maps. Head for "Firs Road" and this will get you there.

Fabulous welcome by the affable landlady who was always willing to help us with questions about where to visit or go to eat and arranged taxis for us one night.

Breakfast was more like what you would get in a boutique hotel - all freshly cooked to order and you could taste the quality - it cost an extra £10 each but we thought was worth it as it set you up for a day's trekking in the Brecon Beacons which are just a few miles away. There are also a few great golf courses close by. We liked Rolls of Monmouth for example. Also, the Celtic Manor (the 2010 Ryder Cup course) is only 25 mins away...

Rooms (as title suggests) are very clean. We stumbled upon the maid one afternoon cleaning the room and you could tell that she was very very thorough.

All told, highly recommended. Cannot think of anything negative especially at this price.

Didn't hit the mark

Ty Llew Bed and Breakfast

What a shame, agreed price by telephone for a double (non en suite) £45 p/n and further agreed to pay £10 pp for breakfast. No mention of non credit card booking fee of £2. Bill on statment was £87. When I raised this on arrival with proprietor's husband, I was advised he couldn't discuss it as money was the domain of the better half. When raised at breakfast I was told I must have been mistaken and that the room was "FROM" £45, obviously the owner has the discretion to charge what she wants, its funny as I had a verbal contract for £45, but hey what do you do when you have already paid up in full.

Enough of that...just beware and if possible ask for a recipt to be issued when a telephone booking is made, probably could have avoided the above sooner.

The place is very clean, well appointed and offers good amenities for a B&B. Breakfast was well cooked, generous and overall "excellent" irrespective of the bitter taste left in the mouth over the dispute of the room rate.

The hotel is situated near to a railway line and for some reason there was a warning alarm that sounded all night, the owner said it had been going off for 3 days and it was annoying if you slept at the back of the property. Just take the opportunity to listen in on check in, it kept both myself and the wife awake for most of the night that drove us out into Abergavenny at 0500hrs for a long morning walk!!!

Awesome breakfast

Ty Llew Bed and Breakfast

Excellent b&b with a legendary breakfast. The only minor things are: (1) let the owners know the night before if you want breakfast, and (2) be careful following satnav/google maps to the location as the roads are new and possibly not marked. Go along Lower Monk St., cross the mini-roundabout and then make a right following the sign to the registry office. Follow the road round to the left and it is at the top of the hill.

Ty Llew Bed and Breakfast

Very comfortable stay right near the centre of Abergavenny. Everything you could want in the rooms and more and excellent showers and a bath.

As other reviewers have stated, this is a modern property in a new estate. I enjoyed the modern decor and the extra touches in the rooms such as bottled water, bathrobes and slippers. The breakfast was amazing with a huge selection of fruit, yoghurts and breads - in addition to the cooked to order breakfast. The host is a fantastic cook and I would stay there again just so I could eat breakfast! I travelled to Abergavenny by bus and walked from the bus station to Ty Llew. I am also in my forties and it took me about 10 minutes but I didn't find it an arduous walk and enjoyed the short cut through the park. The centre of town is only a 5 minute walk from the bus station. It was nice to stay in a quiet location and I certainly didn't mind the 15 minute walk from town to the B&B. I left Abergavenny by train and it is about a 15 minute walk to the train station. I don't mind walking so it seemed a well positioned B&B to me.
