“Lovely big rooms”

Afon Gwyn

6 May 2008

Not much else to say, the rooms were a lovely large size, the bathroom was very nicely appointed... the rets of the house was very nicely decorated and the food and welcome were great. A lovely little base from which to explore North Wales. The walk Tim recommended from Betwys - y - coed to Swallow falls was stunning... all in all a very pleasant stay... Thanks!

The reviews on this site of the Afon Gwyn Country House are very reliable. It is indeed a great place to stay!

You will find very nicely appointed rooms and bathrooms, with all that you need and much that you won't find in a standard B&B. Part of our family stayed in the Alice Room which made a great place for us all to be together. The beds are large and comfortable and made-up with high quality bed clothes. Flat screen TVs and satellite were also nice to have.

The rest of the house is very attractive too, with a bright dining room in the conservatory and a spacious and welcoming hall-way. The breakfast is really top quality and very freshly prepared.

Afon Gwyn also has a nice looking garden, and handy parking.

The only thing missing (for me) was WiFi, but this can be overcome by buying access by the hour from the Royal Oak hotel in the town. Anyway, maybe its a good thing to get away from the rat-race for a bit.

All of the really nice things about Afon Gwyn are made twice as enjoyable by Tim's good humour and friendliness. He is a bit of star when it comes to making people feel welcome and relaxed.

Finally, the house is near Betws-y-coed, along a somewhat busy road, which can be walked, but I suspect most would prefer to drive.

So, we loved Afon Gwyn and would highly recommend it to our friends and family.

This B&B truly is in a league of it's own. It has cornered the market in luxury, and seems more like a 5 star hotel than a traditional B&B.

We stayed in the Alice suite, which was fantastic and enormous - 6ft square bed, huge flatscreen TV, sofa bed, arm chair, kettle and beverages, complimentary slippers, hairdryer, corkscrew and bottle stopper.
The bathroom is spacious and has a bath with shower adapter, seperate shower enclosure, his and her sinks, and complimentary toiletries (decent branded stuff too, not your usual cheap and nasty). The towels are soft and fluffy.

The breakfast, as mentioned in other reviews is of excellent quality and plentiful.

The host is pleasant and welcoming - and to be complimented on the beautiful decor, spotless cleanliness and attention to detail that make this B&B somewhere we will be returning to as soon as possible.

I really cannot say one bad thing about our stay here. The host, Tim, is everything a host should be - friendly, entertaining, helpful without being intrusive.
The setting is wonderful - it's next door to the beautiful Fairy Glen, is right on the river, set back from the road in its own woodland and as it's just on the edge of Betws-y-Coed it's far enough away to be quiet and still close enough to walk into the centre to visit the restaurants etc.
The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated in a contemporary style and the breakfasts are to die for!
If you want to visit Snowdonia then this is definitely the place to stay.
