From looking at the online images of this hotel it actually looked really nice and had that slick, contemporary feel to it... Boy was I wrong! On arrival everything seemed standard and looked like the hotel had had a cheap makeover. Once we checked in and made our way to our room I still had hope that room was going to be nice, however once I opened the door to the room I was gutted to see how very basic it actually was! The room itself was spacious and clean, however the curtains were dirty and the room just looked very tacky with a dodgy makeover of sky blue paint. The bed was uncomfortable and very quickly that you could hear the springs in the bed every time you moved. Once you would eventually fall asleep you would soon be woken up to the noise of trains passing by as the hotel is located right next a railway track. The shower was poor as it was not powerful and if the sink was in use it made things worse. Car parking is very limited and is on a first come first serve basis; luckily the hotel wasn’t at that time, what a surprise! Staff seemed friendly, however one of the managers seemed arrogant and unhelpful. The only good thing I would say about this hotel is that it is located about 5/10 minute’s walk to City Centre. In a nutshell this hotel is tacky and over-rated and should no way be a four star hotel!

“The BIG Dissapointment”

I really don't know where to start with this hotel. Let's give the positives first because there are not many. The whole theme is unique and works well, especially for younger people. The room service gentleman was very polite - we walked in on him after breakfast and he offered to come back at a later time, and even came in to thank us after he had finished, and wished us a good day.

Now for the negatives...

Firstly, we booked the executive suite which was £99 a night, and stayed for 2 nights. We called and asked for some extra pillows and blankets and felt cheeked when we were told that we had to collect them ourselves from reception. They do not bring it to you!

Our shower did not work properly, to the extent that we could not use it on our last morning. One of the other taps in our room was failing also.

The breakfast is sparse to say the least, and the bread available was moldy, with the ends dry and folding over. We felt very put out at the food on offer, and once again on our last morning did not use this facility.

Our bed sheets were dirty, along with the ceiling, and a cupboard had a handle missing off it. A light in the room also didn't work.

On our first night we requested extra towels (the bathroom flooded - our fault - and we wanted a fresh set). Once again we had to collect them ourselves and nobody would collect the old ones from us, so they asked us to throw them outside our room in the 'ironing station' which contains irons / hair dryers etc etc for guest use. The 'festering' towels were still there the next morning, which must have caused a very unpleasant environment for other guests.

We were so angry we emailed the hotel from our room. The hotel manager asked us to meet with her the next morning, and ended up refunding 50% of our stay.

We do feel that this hotel has the potential to be great, if only the service improves (like they actually bring you fresh bedding to your room like any normal hotel) and the place is touched up a bit. The hotel looks nothing like the photo's on the website! at all!

Disappointing stay. Much better options available in Cardiff.

“Fab Hotel, reasonable price!!”

The Big Sleep Hotel

If you want a clean hotel with really friendly staff then this is the one for you!! We stayed over the International Rugby weekend, which as you can imagine was very busy!! The staff were not fazed by this at all and check in was very efficient and friendly.
The rooms were fab, light and very clean, and breakfast was excellant considering that its all included in the price. The price itself though elevated due to the Rugby was still a lot cheaper than other quotes I received! I would definately recommend this hotel to my friends.

“Tacky and unpleasant!”

The Big Sleep Hotel

9 Mar 2008

I stayed with 2 colleagues on business recently. The web site made the hotel sound good - modern, and funky. For £69 a night I was very disappointed. A Premier Travel Inn is the same price and offers a much better room. It's got a good location right in the city centre (the main reason I chose it) but other than that has not a lot to offer. My room (a std double) was very bare with a portable TV and nothing else in it almost! The bedroom curtains were made out of an old blanket (and were filthy) and the bathroom curtains made from an old fleece. The carpet was rough and was clearly cheap! It was clean enough, and the bed was comfortable so it wasn't all bad, but I certainly wouldn't stay there again. The car park has very limited spaces so you have to arrive early to be able to park on site (again, part of the reason chosen). There is also a very 'dodgy' aroma in the corridors that lead to the rooms! The breakfast room is hideously 'pink' and the breakfast itself very poor. 2 girls 'assisting' with breakfast but they were not much help. Buffet style, nothing cooked and no teaspoons!

“£109 per basic twin is NOT budget!!!”

First of all it is ok to stand at reception and maybe smile at the customer.

I booked over the phone and was very clear that I wanted a budget twin. I was booked as a standard - and looking at the photos was put in a budget-. I was led to believe that the 2 nights were £109 and paid when we arrived. We found out as we were leaving that it was £109 per night. For this price we could have stayed in a very nice hotel across the road ,the Park Inn £75 per room. For £50 it would have been ok . but for £109 per night, you do not expect a hostel type experience. The taxi driver told us we could find some nice B&Bs near the Bay at £35 or spend the money and go to the Hilton!!

The big sleep is a big rip off!.
