Stayed here before and liked it in a minimalist/furry curtain/ Ikea sort of way, but the price had gone up and the quality down this time. Location is excellent for the CIA and shops ,but next to the railway can be distracting. Parking is very tricky and extremely limited but we were lucky to have one of the places at the hotel-otherwise you have to use the NCP car park over the busy dual carriageway and get a refund.
We requested a non smoking room but on arrival it was clear people had smoked in there . I complained and was offered another room. Fantastic views from big picture windows. The bedroom carpet was stained in one place and the bathroom smelt a bit unpleasant, but the beds were clean and comfy.
The buffet breakfast has plenty of juices cereals pastries and boiled eggs in a pleasantish room.
I resented having to write my permission for the hotel to take the full payment for the night from my credit card. It was also annoying on trying to cancel one of the two rooms I'd booked to find that after 12 noon no cancellcation was possible.

I have stayed at this hotel twice now.

Both stays have been for concerts at the CIA, which is literally just across the road.

I think this hotel is great. Yes it is basic, but it is very clean and very convieniently located.

The decor is very modern and borders on cheap, but the beds are comfy, the rooms are clean and the showers are hot. What more do you need for a place to kip for the night?

The breakfast is reminiscint of a youth hostel. But for goodness sakes just enjoy it! Fried breakfasts are bad for you anyway! We enjoyed plenty of mugs of tea and coffee, fresh orange juice, cereal, ski yohgarts, marmite on toast, a boiled egg and some mini chocolate petit-pan thingies!!! If you're not full after all that then there is a problem.

I think we paid £60 for a budget twin room, which was ideal.

Would definately stay there a third time.

The Big Sleep gets big thumbs up for a decent night's kip, in clean, safe surroundings, but certainly wouldn't book it if I expected more than just that.

I loved this hotel!!

On day 4 of a round the UK week long regional tour taking in Glasgow, Leeds and Loughborough before hitting Cardiff (and then onto London) this was the best hotel we stayed in.

From the group reservations manager who I dealt with to the very helpful reception staff my experience was excellent.

Clean rooms, very large and comfy bed and great views of Cardiff.

Definately stay here :o)

“Pretty good stay”

I guess I must be weird, but I enjoyed my stay at the Big Sleep.
I stayed on one of the upper floors, at the rear of the hotel. Good view of railway and at night very evocative urban landscape.
The room and bathroom were clean and tidy, the style is minimalistic and suited me. Made me laugh to see all the pictures of John Malkovitch everywhere in poses that suggested he was taking the mickey out of himself.
Bed was clean and comfortable. Tea and coffee making stuff was available, and tv.
Fan didn't work, but room was cool even in the very hot weather at the time.
Breakfast was great. Continental style, and no limit to amount you could eat. I had a couple of boiled eggs, toast, some sandwiches with cut meat, coffee. Filled myself up!
Staff were friendly enough to do the job. No hostility or snide looks which is becoming common in hotels.
I'd definitely stay again.

“Very disapointing and over priced”

I stayed in November. I was charged £109 for one night in what I was told was a "premier" room. I think they were trying for a minimalist look but its just cheap. When I complained about the price for the room I was told that it was premier because it had been refurbished! Basically I got charged extra becuase they had painted it!

They also claimed it was one of their "new on the ninth" rooms - which is every floor from 5 upwards.

The breakfast room had paint on the chairs, a crack in the ceiling and a large silver bucket to collect the water driping through the ceiling.

It was so obviously a poorly converted office building. Paper thin walls, stained office ceiling tiles. Very noisy. From the adjoining rooms, from the corridor, from the concert hall across the road, from the road and from the railway.

They claim it is "budget designer" - infact it is neither. Rooms are cheaper than Ikea and its expensive.

If I wanted to stay in a hostel I wouldnt expect to pay this much.

Over priced and deepply disapointing.
